Sad day/ Happy day

It happened yesterday I came in from work looked over and saw it. My 6700 siting in the charging base with the red light on, I rushed over to find it wouldn't turn on. I tried everything, plug it in unplug it change the battery, still nothing. :pale: As most of you know I have a 700wx now and I keep my 6700 around just for fun and testing so it doesn't leave me without a PPC but we have been together since November of 2005. This is my second 6700 a referb I got in 06 but I haven't been without a 6700 close to me for more than 2 years so there is a profound since of loss. :( I wasn't able to get the Sprint insurance to cover the 6700 after I purchased the 700wx because I used the equipment upgrade to purchase my 700wx. Something about me having to have bought the phone within 30 days of starting the insurance. Last night I put the battery back in for one last try, the screen came on I saw the alltel splash screen from my aku 2.2 custom rom come up, the screen cleared the today screen popped up. As if to say good by all was well for about 30 seconds than the screen flickered and went blank. :( Now when I turn it on the screen is white and the light from the camera flash comes on and I cant turn anything off without takeing the battery out. I will go to Sprint on monday so they can tell me that I am screwed, than I will try sending the poor thing to UT starcom repairs for an estimate but for now I am the proud owner of one expensive flash light that wont turn off.

Sorry to hear about your loss, it was a good phone. Try to remember the good times...
It might be worth trying another battery that you know is charged because L-ION batts don't charge once they get too low as a safety mechanism. Good luck with the phone, and my condolances if all is lost.

Sorry to hear this! I would try to flash it with Sprint ROM before taking it to Sprint, or sending it to UTStarcom

As a previous manager for sprint ...IM not so sure you are screwed.

You need to pay the $55 level 3 tier charge for ESRP Equipment Service Repair Plan. Edit: If its just a power issue you might be good for a $15 charger, level1. Speakers and hinges i think are level 2. Its been a while since I was in the trenches. :)

They will swap the phone for you. Going forward you will have this protection for $3-4 bucks on your bill and it will not require the $55 charge. Even better, you might have this on your plan. Again this is ESRP "NOT" Insurance.

As long as that phone doesnt have liquid damage this is a sure thing.

One more note, 6700s are not usually kept in the retail stores for ESRP claims. THey will send you one from DHRP. Just setting your expectation.

Im also fairly certain this is one of the things that has not changed with ESRP guidelines. Things that have changed: The number of subscribers sprint-nextel added last quarter. GOODNESS!

Thanks everyone for the condolances and for the advice. I will ,be takeing her in on Monday I hope you are correct eyeballz. I miss my 6700 all ready. I don't have an extra battery any moore but I did charge the one I have in the spare battery slot in my charging base and it seams to run the camera light just fine. I tried reflashing the rom but the connection couldn't be made. Also when I leave the battery in without turning the PPC on the whole PPC starts to get hot. Its toaster but thanks to all four concern

i wish you could pop it open and see if something fried. it had to have shorted out somewhere.

Big D, I've had mine the red light issue. I thought mine was a gone, but after removing the battery and hard resetting multiple times I finely got it back up. And got the flashlight when I first tried flashing 3.5. But u can't get it into bootloader and try and reflash huh? Sorry to hear the sad news...

me too

Big D5, i had the same issue with a Seidio 2400 mAh battery. I would leave the phone on my nightstand with well over 50% charge, and when i would check it the next day, it's dead with no boot up. I was able to get it to power up by placing the original battery back in, then plugging it into USB to get a power trickle in.. At that point, the phone would boot and load like normal. With the usb cable in, i could then swap back to the seidio battery and charge it up to full. I thought this was the end of it, but i was faced with the same problem multiple times over the course of 2 weeks. Each time i had to swap back the original battery and do a usb power-up. Very quickly i decided that this was too problematic for a $60 battery, so i ended up replacing it with one of the generic hi-cap batteries on eBay. Imagine my surprise when i see a car charger, AC charger, and hi-cap battery on eBay for $11 + shipping.

I've been running on the new generic hi-cap battery with no power related problems for approximately 8 weeks now. I highly suggest you try something like this before you force yourself into the store if at all possible. Of course, this would require you having a spare OEM/original battery to try out.

One note, i didn't need to do hard resets to get it to power up. As soon as the usb cable was plugged in, i could power up by pressing the good ole power button.

Alternatively, you could try out one of those new lithium polymer batteries instead. I almost bought one instead, except the power capacity was less than a hi-cap battery.
