Custom AKU2.2 Beta 2.0 AVAILABLE NOW!!

First I should warn that PPCGeeks.com nor me will not be held responsible if something were to go wrong. That being said its like any other update.....all you have to do is download the files from a link listed below. Extract them to the desktop open the the folder. Read the readme and run the .exe, same as the offical ones, BUT your PPC HAS TO BE IN BOOTLOADER MODE BEFORE running the .exe. (Hold power button, notes key, and soft reset) This ROM doesnt have to many "seen" differences, most changes have be made behind the scenes. ;) I didnt remove the built-in voice dialer, because Im sure most dont use MSVC. Big thanks to isamu49 for his script to replace the bootscreen and providing me with all the carrier logos! Major thanks to XDA-Developers, and Buzzdev.net for the knowlege and tools used in the creation of this custom AKU 2.2! PLEASE HARD RESET AFTER YOU UPGRADE. I will be adding my extROM and full packages later today, just wanted to roll out the base OS for everyone. :D
Enjoy your new Custom AKU2.2!
Mike

Sweet! It's here!

Thanks for all the hard work thus far

Wideawake 01-09-2007 07:17 AM

Note: The installers I made, werent formatted right, so its gonna ask u were to extract. (Except the Sprint and Alltel versions) Once the files have been extracted run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe with all the files in the same folder. I will try and fix the installers ASAP and reupload.

Thanks for the tip!

The install for the Sprint version went very smooth. I upgraded from the stock 2.2, not the custom Beta 1, so all of those changes are new to me too. First impressions are great!

Like the new default home page in IE, and the Crossbow.tsk

Issues:
1. The first issue I saw was on first boot while it loads files from Ext Rom the soft key buttons at the bottom read:
3m41 / Contacts

After it finishes and restarts I have the same. "3m41" where it usually says "Calendar" and "Contacts" on the right.

If I use the "3m41" key it brings up Outlook.
[edit] Ha Ha, ok I just put my leet speek hat on and got the joke! [/edit]

2. minor: the contact list has "Customer Solution *2 w" listed twice. I know my custom Ext Rom has the file that adds it in there, so perhaps your new rom all ready had it in there and I just need to remove that line from the ext rom config file.

This should have wiped out everything on my system right? I still have icons for software I had installed before...
OK I did a second hard reset. For some reason the first one must not have actually hard reset, and instead just soft.
That resolved the *2 showing up twice in contacts and my old software icons being present, but the "3m41" issue is still there.

3. After running PPST.exe I was still at PRL 20224, no big deal though.
[edit] just noticed you said this would work when also installing the custom ext rom so ignore that and I'll wait for its release [/edit]

Overall it's really snappy! I'll give it a full days use and let you know if I run into anything else.

Thanks!

haha yea, my bad. the whole 3m41 was for my ROMs. I will post a cab or it can be manually edited with a reg editor. And as far as after the upgrade and u soft reset.....u get the tutorial. The ppc thinks it hard resets but it actually doesnt. So I suggest you hard reset instead of pressing the soft reset as stated in the instructions on the upgrade tool. The radio is what makes ur phone actually hard reset. ;) which hasnt been included. The extROM will be done tonight, unless something happens and Im busy @ work. And I will be releasing the extROM in a single package so u wont have to hard reset, along with a "complete" package.
~Mike

Edit: I think the UTStarcom bootscreen is nice imho.....

Thanks Mike :) Installing now...

But as for incentive to remove the Cyberon Voice Dialer ;) Here is the installer I used to revers as much as I could with still being installed in the ROM (basically Reg Hacks and removing the Startup files, everything else is in the ROM).

Oh... And I'll bench mark this one as soon as it isntalls as well.

PS: Thanks to xda-Developers for this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=247262[/u]

Wideawake 01-09-2007 09:55 AM

haha I may do that then MadManX. I added some sounds and like 2 ringers from the vista pack along with the activsync switch so it may have less or more I havent checked myself.....I just know what I shaved off not what I put in :D
~mike

ps I did remove it from the startup tho ;)

MadManX 01-09-2007 10:03 AM

Well the upgrade took maybe 5 minutes. I did not have to hard reset for the OS to boot this time. But man I got a bunch of errors when it did boot from previously installed software so I'm hard resetting anyway. :)

I did notice a new first boot sond already though ;)

Oh... And how about the old Reb Sprint logo for us that have the older PPCs :D
