Is the Phone an App or Rom? How To Update?

Hi guys/gals,

Question, is the Phone an App or a Rom or both?

I guess, best to ask what I am trying to get at. How can I change or update
the phone app / rom ? To let's say another carrier's version or something like that?

For example, I have a Sprint phone, and was wondering if I could and how could I switch the phone app / rom to Verizon's? or some other carriers' ?

Thanks,

-CC

P.S. not looking to use one carrier's actual phone on another's network. I am asking about the "phone ROM / application" itself..

The Apache device has a CE ROM which controls all functions except for the phone. It is changeable so that it can be configured to work with any carrier. It is up to the carrier to decide whether they will allow the phone radio to access their network. This radio also accesses the Data network.
A Sprint branded phone could be activated by a carrier that uses the same type of CDMA radio if that carrier did that kind of thing. Sprint (and I think Verizon is the same) won't activate any phone that isn't branded by them. This may change in the future as there are laws that might force them to allow access to their networks by non-branded phones, but as of now, you'll be out of luck with those two carriers.

To get the really low down...call Verizon and ask them....it is more or less based on ESN data base on Carriers...and letting go...so that other Carriers can activate the same phone.

Sure you can load the Verizon Rom....but the question really is ...will Sprint release the ESN to another carrier....and will Verizon...accept ESN's from other carriers.

The Big Boys..want to play the game.....my phone/my carrier only, you know where they are coming from.....they dont want to sell a phone and then you go somewhere else for service, it is all about control and $$$$$$$, sell a phone/service on same carrier.

Heck I like t-mobile phones...dont like their service...and if I could I would buy a t-mobile phone and have sprint service.

Edit:

Trident...must be bored like myself....lol.

Loading / burning different Radio, ExtROM and Roms, doesn't change the "phone" reguardless of who's I load.. That's what I am trying to figure out, how to do, if it can and has actually been done.. All the EPST configs on my phone say/mention Sprint. I don't have a Verizon phone or any other carrier's, but I am sure each has references to the carrier it's ment for.

I am wondering if it's another Rom or program/app.. I have two Sprint phones, both different versions of the PRI.. Wondering how I can cook/burn in the upgrade/update, where I can find it, if it can be done. I do notice that the ExtROM does have a PRI/PRL update .CAB, but I'd prefer to burn it in. Or again, burn some other carrier's phone, if possible.. BTW, viewing the ExtROMs for other carriers, most of them seem to have some sort of PRI/PRL update .CAB.

Not really a question of if I can use one carrier's phone on another's network, but thanks ;)

Is the PHONE part of the Apache upgradeable? Other than using .CABs?
I have two phones both with different PRI. ExtROMs aren't run..

Thanks

Looked at this, but it talks about using different branded phone hardware on other providers. I am trying to find out how to upgrade/update the phone part of the apache.. Thanks
