blocking verizon data transfer?
anybody know a way to turn off, or a registry hack to disable data transmissions. i do not have a data plan with verizon, nor do i want one. i just want a way so that i dont have to worry about me accedentiely doing something stupid and getting an outrageous data charge. anyone know if it is also possible with the 6800? as i will be getting one very soon. thanks

When I didnt not have a data plan...I was thinking just like you...so what I did just to make sure was to change the connection from "Celluar" to "Generic IrDA" or something else...and if it tried to connect..it was get an error..due to not connecting.

i appoligize, but could you give me the steps to doing this? thanks

No problem...
Setting\Connection (tab) then Connection..."manage existing connections" then "edit" your connection..then change the "Select a modem:" |
dame verizon has it grayed out and i cant change it. anyone else have any ideas?

Just delete the connection. Settings...Connections...Connections...Manage My Existing Connections Tab and hold the connection listed. Choose Delete.

Without a data plan you will not be able to connect at all. I originally had a pay per kb plan with Verizion. One month I incurred about $20 in data fees for doing nothing other than the phone auto connecting on its own. I called Verizon and canceled my data plan all together. Now anytime my phone tries to connect, it gives me an error. The downside is that pic messaging uses the same data connection, therefore you loose the ability to send/receive pic messages. I would also follow RussMuscle's advice and delete the connection setting just to get rid of the annoying error message you will get when trying to connect.

You could use a program called NoData i use it on my 6700 and have never incurred any data charges.
It shows an icon on the connection settings tab and allows you to toggle the connection on and off. |
heres the link it just took me a minute to find it.

FYI all smartphones require a data plan. The datablock is a plan even though it is free and blocks data.
