wifi connects but ie give network error

ROM version 3.60.70 WWE; radio version1.41.00; ExROM 3.14.208 WWE; PRI version 1.12_002

I've had no problems connecting at home on my home wifi secured network, but this weekend stayed at a hotel with unsecured wifi.
Phone had no problems connecting to their network (showed it connected) but IE would not work, kept getting a message "network problem check with the network administrator " or something like that. Laptop connected fine and set my phone the same.
Neither would the htc weather update. Also checked it out at the mall and had the same problems on other unsecured networks. First time ive tired wifi out of the house since the rom update, didnt have the problem before. Any Ideas? Anyone else haveing this problem showing connected but network errors? What am i missing?

Thanks guys

The reason hotels run unsecured is because of network simplicity and easy management. If they do WEP and use a KEY and you go out and give it to me, then I can connect free and thus so could everyone else is we pass the key around. So what they do in run open and use MAC filtration because then they can still run unsecured but still regulate who connects to their network. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. Found that the MAC address on my PPC is listed under settings, wirelessLan, advanced. However still not sure why I had no problems connecting to these networks, yet still got the network server error on IE and htc weather. how can i be connected but still not be able to use the network? Do I have to do something to set the mac address on the network after i connect?

Yes, you actually will connect and they will assign a DHCP IP addy but try to understand it as a biometric system where you may have access (through your handprint) to some things but you dont have clearence to all things. You normally have to provide your MAC addy to hotel front desk (or IT) and they add it in the system therefore providing you that full access.

The same things goes for all person home network routers like Linksys or Netgear, ECT.
