phazi,
I use a 4GB Topram card (non-SDHC) w/ no problems on the Apache other than a need to reformat the card every few months. I keep the card synced with some folders on the laptop, so no problem there. This is WITHOUT the SDHC drivers from the WM6 kitchen. The Topram is the only name brand I've ever heard of for the non-HC 4GB cards that work. There are a bunch of generic ebay cards that were fake/phony and didn't work and maybe some that did, but that's an old story. Good luck, tmb |
thank u both

hmmmmmm I bought one of these 4GB cards from EBay.........hope it works! I think it's SD, but I cooked in the driver pkg with both.....we shall see. Since you mentioned it, allow me to ask how you format an SD card?
thx. |

Easiest is using a card reader on your computer. Just plug it in, point to it in my computer, right mouse click, and "Format". This will format the card using FAT32 by default, which is fine. (I actually use the "format" command at the dos prompt (start/run/command...) because it gives you a few more options, but it should work the same way in this case.) |

I do NOT recommend the 4gb non-SDHC cards to anyone at this point. With the new SDHC drivers, it does not make sense. SDHC cards are as cheap if not cheaper than the non-SDHC.
I had a Topram 4gb card before the new drivers were brought to play. It was a pain in the butt as the other user mentioned - because every few months the data would get corrupted and unusable. So it was totally unreliable. This happened more often the more you wrote and rewrote to the card. For me, when I was playing and saving video games - I may have had to format the card once a week. If you're only reading FROM the card, (as in music) you're probably ok - but why not have a card that's reliable for reading & writing. So do yourself a favor and get an SDHC card with the updated drivers. I have a 6gb SDHC card now, and it's awesome. It's nice not to have to regularly check my data for corruption - or "missing space". |
