Vibrate Issues?
 

My XV6700 quite vibrating some time after updating to a new 12/17 Kitchen ROM. I was thinking it was the ROM or something new about the Kitchen.
I dropped it this AM when the phone rang (no vibrate), and it started vibrating again when I picked it up.
If your phone doesn't vibrate at all even though all settings should support vibrate mode, try tapping the phone a bit during a test ring. It could be hardware, and might be stuck. A bit of a jar might start it up again.
Or it could be a bad vibrate motor and need repair or replacement.

yea i have had the same problem ( never droped my phone tho) but i have had several missed calls one day cuz my phone was not vibrating...i thought it was off but it is a hardware issue...i just squeeze the bottom part of my phone where the charger connect at and its fine for a while.

Amazing, that did the trick! I was searching ALL over this site and not wanting flamed for a "Stupid" question...found this thread.... I did the ring test and tapped my desk with my 6700 and it's working again, thanks Robtao!

I had a similar problem, when I got my phone it had already been flashed with a custom rom and wouldn't vibrate even with the setting on, but I flashed it with a newer rom and it was working fine

Glad this info helped someone. I had insurance and got a new phone out of mine.

OKay I tried dropping it on the desk tapping it and pushing the back cover nothing worked however if I touched the screen while it was ringing it vibrated. Well any suggestions or is that just weird?

When I looked to see any updated posts I realized that this is the HTC Apache post while I have the Titan not sure if it makes a difference but I am having the same issue

I also have had issues with my phone from time to time with it not vibing when it is supposed to. And yes, I have been able to gently bump my phone to make it vibe although I do also swear it seems related to the ROM sometimes as well (althought I doubt myself on that sometimes)

The vibrator obviously has to rotate, and being mechanical, there may be pressure applied the way it is all assembled. Opposite pressure applied relieves the friction, or realigns the coils or bushings, or whatever, and frees up the mechanism.

It may or may not be the same hardware for different models, but the principle is the same.

There may also be other models which by use of a different vibrator, are less susceptible to the problem.

THX but I think we all know how a vibrator works. ;-) Seriously though, we know it is a phyical issue as 'bumping' causes the minute clearances needed for the motor to spin. Please lets not get into the type or rotating device we have (whether it be bearing [which I doubt seriously] or brushless [which is about what every cheap motor is now-a-days] and how the counterweight drives the force in causing the 'vibe'. Many people have said that by revong the battery and replacing it seems to cause the issue to go away for some time. There are many pics of the device disassembled on the net so we know where the motor is at. Bottom line in my opinion, the motor is about as good as the camera in the so-called 'top of the line' phone.

What happens with all sorts of electric motors is that sometimes (after lots of use) they stop in the middle of the magnetic field and get "stuck". They are getting pulled by both magnets at the same time and then wont rotate... happens quite a bit with starter motors/other armatures. That's why you will occasionally see people with old cars hit the starter with a hammer... It moves the armature.

I dont know what vehicle starters you have that by tapping the starter itself you are able to help rotate the armature but I have always seen it to be the bendix of solenoid. What you say makes sense and I am not disputing it, its just that Ive never seen it myself. But it certainly makes me look at things in another viewing angle.

As for the 6700, I do like mine, I like it enough that I have an iPhone in my possession and have not switched over. But it does have it flaws in the hardware area whereas the iPhone is good in every hardware area but just so new that the software is just now starting to come out for it to make it 'good',

Also, I can verify the PPC6700 Hacks can affect vibrate. I turned off flashing LED and after a couple days realized this also disabled vibrate. Something to consider.

Yes, yes, yes. But the OP didnt turn his LEDs off and therefore is not the cause of this issue. There is a complete hacks thread that speaks or turning the LEDs off and the effects it causes.

My vibrate wasn't working and I found that i had inadvertenly turned off the LEDs usings the PPC6700 Hack cab. I didn't even realize that turning off the LEDs would have that affect.
