WiFi Only

I recently removed the Unlimited Data package from my phone. I had been using the email feature a lot but since I VPN from my home now I can get my email all the time on my home PC. Anyways... I still like WeatherPanel and the such, so I know I can use the wifi, but I ONLY want to use the WiFi. Is there a way other than the reg hack shown below to make it so it will update those particular programs when wifi is connected, and not any other time?

Eliminate accidentally dialing #777,
if you don't have the unlimited plan Add a user name to the Data Network connection, without any password. In this way, when ever the phone attempts to dial #777, a password screen pops up. You can click cancel, if it isn't intentional, or just click "OK", and it will then complete the connection.

start - settings - connections - connections - Manage existing connections (for me, this is under the Verizon Wireless heading) edit the Data Network Connect that has the #777 number., click next - next -
then put in a username (ANY name will do), and NOTHING else.

There is no specific registry hack that will control when a particular or several apps will update when being connected via WiFi and not Data. What you need to look for (if available) are settings in the apps that will update or DL upon a connection of some type.

I made a small vis of my Pocket Weather 1.3.6 and towards the end you will see where i can set it up to use various type connection methods.

I actually contacted Verizon and they turned off data from my plan. The downside is that I can no longer receive pic messages. Really don't care about that anyway. As for WeatherPanel, you can have it auto update without establishing a connection. It will auto update only when wifi is on. I use it this way all the time. Works great!

A question along these lines if I may?

I am now active, and I don't use the VZW data plan, as I have WiFi connections at home and at work. When I turn the phone's WiFi interface off manually, I keep getting a popup nitification that I'd like to eliminate, if there's a way. It says, "error 37. Misc error setting up mobile IP."

What to do...............?

delete your cell dial connection from under Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections
