Sprint PPC6700: Rom Update? GPS help

I have a Sprint Pocket PC (6700)

Currently with these ROM settings...

Model PA10A1 Platform PocketPC
ROM version 3.50.00 WWE
ROM date 4/25/07
Radio version 1.27.00
Protocol version SNAZ-40306
Hardware version 0041
PRL vesion 20224
PRI version 1.14_003
Browser version MSIE 6.0

Can someone direct me to the appropriate download location for the approrpiate newer ROM I should without doubt upgrade to?

RIght ROM for the device / carrier, etc...

Dont know what version of Windows mobile this is? can you tell by my current setting displayed above? i think im currently running windows mobile 5 and want 6? this device can support version 6, right?

lastly, MUST I upgrade to a newer rom? I dont care really except, I want the GPS to work, and I know even when i had the HTC touch I needed a rom update to unlock the GPS, etc... so Im assuming same with this older device. ?

please help.

lastly how can I install this newer rom without using the USB /active sync? because the USB connector on my device is IFFY slight movement can interrupt its connection......

I do have a 2gb mini SD card with the device...

thanks so much !! anxiously waiting expert replies :)

You can check out the Apache Rom section at ppckitchen.org. We have several wm6.5 roms available over there.

No, you need to check out your settings\system\about to find that information. Likely you are running wm5. Yes, the Apache can support up to wm6.5.x

Your Apache does have GPS, but it is available only for emergency services, sorry.

I would recommend WM6.1. As for GPS, you can get a bluetooth GPS unit.

I've heard rumors of SD flashing, but I wouldn't trust it without deeper research. I'd suggest soldering your usb connector or using some hot glue to hold it steady for flashing. Soldering that little bugger is tricky, it took me a few times to get it right.

Humm... interesting approach with the hot glue.

Yeah, I only recommend it as a temp fix. It won't work if the contacts are detached from the mb but it will keep a shaky connection stable long enough for a flash.

Side note on hot glue, it IS safe on electronics. I made a casing for a usb thumb drive out of nothing but hot glue once. Bwahaha

Well, if it would work, then more power to you... seems a bit messy though...

It's not pretty, but you can peel it off when you're done.
