Need your opinions Apache users!
Hello all!
I currently own a Treo 700w and I am finally thinking that its time to put her to pasture. For some reason, it runs really slow and freezes from time to time. Not to mention its kinda worn and banged up. I have the opportunity of switching to the xv6700 and I am wondering if its worth it. I don't know why but the Treo's small screen just bugs me a lot. I want to have a full PPC screen so I don't have to cram everything in. Also, how well does the wifi work? P.S. I know you're all expecting this question but is there anyway I can get WM6 on the xv6700? Thanks!!! |
I think its worth it from the treo. I love my 6700. I think the wifi works fine. I live in a building (4th floor) and i can connect to my wifi outside in the parking lot.
Also, The 6700 has had wm6 for some time now. Thanks to helmi and the rest. Look in the upgrade sub forum. It a sticky. |
Now this doesn't really matter but is the WM6 upgrade "legal". I'm going to buy a xv6700 from a friend so I don't have to worry about breaking any warranties. I just don't want to fry my equipment. Sorry for the noob questions
|
Sorry to answer this way, but read the apache furum for your answers.
Only do what you are comfortable with doing. |
someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the WM6 issue is a grey area.....MS released it for free, but it was not technically released for the apache....I wouldn't worry about it, you can always flash back to stock WM5.
As far as switching, I'd say definitely yes....w/ the WM6 kitchen, the apache f'n rocks, I have no interest in going to the mogul or touch etc. |
I agree with Old Man Jenkins......the 6700 with Helmi's WM6 Kitchen rocks.
I had been going back and forth with switching to the Mogul.....and asked myself what does the mogul have that my 6700 doesn't......could not come up with anything that was a big advantage (storage space?, buy bigger miniSD/microSD card). |
Thanks! I have to make a decision now, but I'm really leaning towards buying the xv6700. My friend is selling it to me for $100 and she says its in perfect condition. I can also sell my Treo 700w for about $100 but it has some signs of wear & tear (ie minor scratches, and a couple scuffs). This could turn out to be a free upgrade!
|
Sorry I don't mean to double post but I just wanted to let you all know that I took the dive. I will be purchasing a xv6700 tomorrow. I can't wait to get my hands on it. FINALLY a full screen PPC phone!
|
Good move. I was just about to post & ask that you if you decided against the XV6700, would give me your firend's contact info - 'cause I'd jump on another XV6700 for $100 just to have it as a spare "backup" unit....
You'll love the Apache. |
I just got my xv6700 and I LOVE it! It's so much better than my old Treo 700w. I love the full screen and the sliding keyboard. Everything with this phone is significantly better than the Treo. Now I have the welcomed task of customizing!
|
Yup, the Apache rocks hard. :D Been using one for a year, and none of the new PPC's out impress me enough to upgrade. As previously stated, good move; it's a great phone.
After you get it, check out the Upgrades forum; it has a lot of good stuff, including an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6! I'm running it right now, and I gotta say--it's awesome. |
you should do it.

The only big advantage the 6700 has over the mogul or 6800 on verizon is the fact that there isn't that many upgrades as far as rom's go, but the programs are still there.
|
I went from a Treo 650 ((PalmOS) whose screen cracked when dropped (go figure)) to a 700w (which I was jazzed about for the 1st week) to a 6700 (which I've had for about 6mnths and am still digging it quite a bit).
The 700w was so crammed with Palm-proprietary crap that upon bootup, I had ~10Meg free of memory to run programs. I was constantly 'killing' apps that retreated to the background. The dialpad was fugly and could not be skinned (that I knew of)...Due to it's limitations, I decided to sell on eBay, and trade up to the 6700. That move was the best move in terms of value and enjoyment out of a phone I have ever made. |
6700 is Great!
I have a 6700 and I absolutely love mine. I have it all tricked out thanks to Helmi_C and all the fine folks.
I did notice that a preliminary kitchen is now available for the 6800/Titan, which could be very interesting down the line. Steve |
you couldn't have made a better decision...now the only thing you need to do is read and upgrade. You think it rocks on factory setting just wait till you run WM6...thanks to the ppc GODS on this site.

I am in the process of reading how to put WM6 on my 6700. I have a few more questions: How can I make the landscape background different from my normal background? What is the best case?
|
good move! I also just bought mine from a friend @ work for 100 and will be installing the wm6 tomorrow
