You don't necessarily have to hard reset to do this. Just run the unlock cab and exe and soft reset. Then you're ext_rom will be unlocked and fully accessible. You can add and delete programs at will and also in addition to installing to the storage card or device you'll be able to install into the available ext_rom.

they will run fine too? i already have the rom unlocked....i have erased all the junkware. i will install mms on my card later. i am on verizon. i have msvc uncompressed and spb backup as well as the edited txt file. how do i get the programs workign from here without a hard reset? i would love to get this far and then backup my phone before i install anything else.....so are you saying instead of doing all the txt edits and autoexe....just use the space as i would a ext card ? will this hurt the performance of msvc (since i am not hard reseting)? i would think this would make it possible for me to instal exe files from my comp sinec many times i cant find the cab to stick into ext rom even after looking under activesync folder on my pc.

If you run out of room in your extended_rom, you can point the config.txt file to your storage card and install aditional apps from there as well.

I have run MSVC1.6 from my ext_rom without any performance or useability issues.
Don't forget, if you unlock and clear out the rom to use it for storage space or to install apps to, you will need to reload it with your base ext-rom files before you hard reset or you wont get any auto-install after hard reset. |
In my testing I had the config text point to the storage card for cabs, but even though the autorun exe showed it loading, the cabs progress bar flashed across to fast and it never installed.
I believe it was because I had the cabs placed 2 folders in on my storage card. I don't think the autorun was made to look that far in, even though the config text listed it. Also, after more experimenting to get everything to run off card in a hard reset , with nothing in Extrom2.... I killed my mem card! So although you can have cabs run off the card, I'm not shure if you can do that more than 1 folder in.... And you do still need to run the "autorun exe" and the config text in the Extrom area, for now. |
 Those of you using 3X roms, look in your windows folder at the text files of the installed cabs and see how many say OK or NG...
I am realizing these cabs need updating for newer 3Xroms.. |
Personal Config not Just installing Software
Very nice on the lesson.
Is there a way of creating a CAB to enter information like "Owner Information, Name, Company, Address..." or changing my "Items" displayed on my desktop. I don't like filling in the information very time or changing the area code in "Contacts", when I test a new ROM. Thank-you |

then you use a program like "WinCE CAB Manager" to make a new cab, and in this new cab you can enter the reg edits. :) |
I went on vacation for two weeks and will be heading to costa rica for another few days soon......my phone worked fine then one day my strorage card showed up as storage card2 and sometime around the same time my ext rom no longer was cleaned out and it had everything in it again. I must not have cleared it the right way for the 3 rd time :)
I want to put MS VC 1.6 in ext rom but i want to compress it since it is so large but i have heard the 3rd rom doesnt play well with a compressed version. I am trying to get the fastest and best rom for things bc i will be doing the same thing to over ten xv6700....all of my partners at the mortgage bank i own will be using this phone and the exchange server i will be buying in the next couple of months. thanks. Other programs we will need: IM+, skype, Iguidance, newsbreak, spb backup etc (i have purchased these for me and will be getting them for each of them as soon as i get it all working right and fast on my device). |
