6700 and Ubuntu/Linux

This summer i installed a rom for my 6700 from this forum. I am not sure which one it is, i believe it is version 3.50.00.
I have been trying to sync the phone with Ubuntu 7.10. It seems to be a long process, but i also read reports that it doesn't work for wm6.
Is the installed rom considered wm6 or not ?

Has anyone been succesful to sync the phone with Ubuntu 7.10 ?

Thanks.

I wish. I have been trying, quite unsuccessfully, to sync with Ubuntu since 7.04. The OpenSync/SynCE method hasn't worked for me. There isn't any documented findings with WM6, and WM5 support is sketchy at best. If you figure it out, please let me know. Your best bet may be to use a Exchange account on 1and1.com or mail2web.com. Personally, I switch back to my Windows partition once a week or so to sync/backup, then hop right back into Gutsy.

Even I myself have tried to Linspire as it is what I use most but have never gotten it to work. So like BrightEdge said, I just use certain things with Win based OS's and other things for my Linux

3.5 is wm5 aku 3.5 & early kitchen versions didn't have the rom version updated to the one we're using now. If you want to know what you're running go into the settings and check it out

I have a 6800 and have gotten it to sync (and even flashed). I dont remember the whole process, but to start you out, go to your device manager and look at the USB section, there should be a PPC listed. (if not, i'm not sure what you do, lol). Click on its properties to find out which usb port the phone is in, and if you have synce installed, type
synce-serial-config ttyUSBx (x being the usb port number)
then
synce-serial-start

you'll probably have to sudo it, but i dont remember what i did after that (ended up making a windows partition so i just use that for PPC stuff only pretty much).

If you have any questions, shoot me a PM...Oh, and sorry for beating a dead horse.

1. I got rid of my Windows Mobile phone (boy was that an ugly piece of work!)
2. I stopped using Lotus Notes (whew!).
3. I moved over to Thunderbird on all my platforms (instea
of Outlook, Entourage and Evolution, respectively on Windows, Mac OS and Linux).
4. I picked up a Nokia N800.
5. I’ve stopped trying to keep my older devices synced.

Welcome Hank Freid but maybe I missed something because what does this have to do with synching the PPC 6700 on any form of Linux? You changed phones and email clients and learned old devices need to be left alone.

I dual boot between Ubuntu 7.10 and WinXP because I can't get it to sync w/ Ubuntu either. Search teh xda forums and you might find something.

This is just a thought, kind of farteched...but what about using wine with outlook and activesync? Think it'd work or is this just absolutely impossible? Haven't played around with wine too much so I don't even know if outlook and activesync would even function with it....but hey if any of you are savvy enough, give it a shot?

Syncing via WinE isn't an option.

As far as syncing at all, maybe some of the smart bastards from the kitchen team could make it happen... <coughgguruusacough> It might not seem like a worthwhile effort, but there are plenty of linux users forced to dual boot just to sync the phone, not to mention run the kitchen. My stupid phone is the only reason I still boot XP... who else?
