ESN - ELECTRONIC SERIAL NUMBER is something every phone has some company carriers use it to active a phone ex: verizon , sprint if you want to port over your service then you need to call verizon and give them your new ESN to activate your phone theres not really an unlock that you can do with cdma phones so if ur trying to use a sprint phone on verizon services that i knw of but it looks like
ur SOL < shit outta luck

and speaking of risks, you're somewhat right. CDMA carriers won't let ya do anything like that unless you bought that specific device from that carrier's store and with use of that carrier only. it doesn't sound fair, but i read something a while back where some guy ported a sprint number to a treo 650 (verizon device). i dunno how he did this, but he must've found some way around it by calling sprint to do it.

i heard something you have to call for the esn and the u have to download a program and edit some .sys file sounded confusing....i looked around and found only ways to do it on regular phones and not windows mobile devices. the programs wont recognize my apache

No how it works is esn are preloaded- esn already have to be loaded into a system. ESN are entered in by the manu most esn that are from other carriers may not show up in verizon system.

and besides doing it from sprint to verizon, does the same apply for all other CDMA carriers and their systems as well?
