6700 car mount readable in the daytime?

I know the 6700 has crappy sunlight readability. my question is does anyone have one mounted in a car dock? I was looking at the seidio G4600 or G4500 for my car. My concern is, will it be readable in the car for use as a NAV device? Also is it worth it to have the one that allows slide out keypad? I can always get an external gps reciever for it or i can get the one that has it built in, but no slide keyboard.

Any thoughts on the sunlight or slide no slide docks?

Thanks.

i'd probably get the one that allows you to slide out the keyboard. i guess the only problem left would be to find a spot in your car to mount it.

The 6700 is unreadable in a car mount in moderate to bright sunlight unless shaded. I made a shade out of stiff file folder cardboard for mine. The cardboard has four surfaces (top, right, left, and back and just slides behind the 6700 when I need to use it. There is a small hole cutout for the antenna. It looks like hell, but it works. If you want a better one, try looking for a small carrying cas for a portable LCD TV. Radio Shack has one that would work except you would need to figure out how to attach it to the car mount.

My car mount is actually a GPS mount that comes off the windshield and has around a 12" arm that extends and retracts. I have no issues with the sunlight being a nuisance at all. I use it primarily to see who is calling me or to see when an email is coming in. I also use it occasionally for GPS navigation as well and so far, no complaints with my set up. I wish I remember who made the one I have as it works perfectly, especially if you have an extended battery setup.

I use one.

Mine is under the rearview mirror and works just fine.

where to get one.

Verizon has them in their retail stores.

I used mine the entire drive to FL and then to MI without incident.

I have a "ProClip" mount that is on an 01 Jetta that puts the 6700 in the center of the dash in front of the vents. At this level the sun is a problem. I have a LCD gauge mounted just above the mirror and have no problem with that.

Makes me wonder now from a post above if you could use one of those GPS or notepad vacumn mounts and put it just under the rear view mirror (as long as it doesn't interfere with vision). Maybe even brace it to the mirror.

That would probably get it high enough so the sun is not an issue.

Maybe we can post pictures of setups, a visual will spark ideas for people.

I bet that does work. Nice selling point to my customers for our mounts in store! Thanks!
