PC wont recognize phone in bootloader

Is this a common problem?

When my Apache is in bootloader mode, my laptop suddenly doesnt recognize it and all I can do is soft reset my phone.

This prevents me from flashing it anymore.
What is there to do?

When i had this problem, it was due to a bad cable.
