Selling my Sprint Apache, How do I do it?
Hey gang,
I am selling my Sprint Apache ppc 6700 because I need to put the profits toward the purchase on a Sprint Touch\\:D/. I was hoping to:
Is that the best/correct way to do it:?: Will Sprint let me do it that way... or am I gonna get hit with a bunch of charges from moving my phone number twice. Or..... should I scrap the whole idea and do one of those $99 deals on eBay where you add a new line or new service. Any tips:?: ~Syn :smurf: |
when I bought my mogul I gave my 6700 to my wife, when I called to change the phone to her number(family share plan) they told me that it would reset her eligibilty for phone upgrade. Im thinking if you switch your line to the old junk phone you will loose your 150 rebate. Im not positive but thats what I took from the lady on the phone. Of course she could barely speak english so who knows what she really meant!

hummm.... good point.
How does the "Upgrade" program work then? Do I keep my 6700, do the upgrade through Sprint, then sell my 6700? ... or does the upgrade program include me giving Sprint my old 6700? |
YOu can stiil get your rebate but you will have to get it as a credit on your bill and get it through coustomer service. This happend to me and I had to pay full price up front and on the next bill they gave me the credit so I didn't care as long as I got my credit.

the upgrade is only if you had that same phone for 2 years
if at anytime you change phones(unless its replaced by insurance/warranty) then you lose your upgrade so you need to get the touch and have them apply the upgrade when you get it then you can sell your 6700 the phone is yours, sprint wont ask for it back |
Ahh... It sounds like I am going to have to spend a lot of money up front, then get some of it back over time.
It would be cheaper for me to wait for my contract to expire and just sell my phone on eBay. After that I could do one of the $99 deals on ebay for new service or add a new line to my wifes account. That way... I would have no "out of pocket" expenses because I would count the sale of my 6700 towards the Touch. Meh... I suppose I'll have to play it by ear and see how much I can get for the 6700. I was hoping to get $200 for it. Anyone interested? Either way... I am getting the Touch! (i don't use the keyboard on my 6700 anyway ... I do use WiFi though...) OH! ONE LAST QUESTION :?: When I sell the 6700, how do i instruct the buyer to turning on the service? The phone will still have my phone number & sprint email addy in it even after I do a hard reset. Do I tell the buyer they will have to take it to a Sprint store to activate the phone? ...CURIOUS... Thnx for the help gang! ~Syn |
1. If you do an ESN swap to an old phone it doesn't necessarily mean you have to lose your rebates. Ask the CSR to notate your account for those rebates. Like someone mentioned it may or may not have to be applied as a credit.
2. If your wife wants the 6700 and doesn't yet have a number, give it to her, and add a new line of service via the ebay deal then do several ESN swaps to get your number onto the Touch or... 2. If you sell it on Ebay make sure your number is on the temporary phone and that you "release" the 6700 from your account making it free to be activated on another. You could always sell it on craigslist or the bargain trader of this website and save a few bucks... |
Excellent tips!
Thank you all for the insight. I'll post what goes down... (i love the 6700... hate to not have it... but feel I will love the Touch in a more Biblical sense... Hubba Hubba!) Later gang, ~Syn |
Before you ship the 6700 to a buyer, you should hard reset it, That should wipe it clean and get the 6700 back to new software settings.

Okay... here's the new plan of action.
I am extending my Sprint contract for another 2 years. ($150 credit to the account) and giving the 6700 to my wife. It will replace her POS Sayno mm5600. (we can use that one as our emergency backup phone) Her phone is an "addon" and the contract is up. NEXT, I will do one of the $99 deals on eBay for the Sprint Touch (2 year contract adding a NEW line to my account) After all is said & done, the only real drawbacks are: My wife will have my old number, and I will have a new number. My wifes old number will just be dropped. (note to self: tell girlfriend and hoes that I pimp not to call my old number. That would be embarrassing!) I don't think I can play switch-er-ooo with our original phone numbers because I would have to at least keep the new number as part of the eBay deal. Well see what happens. |
Once you get the ebay phone you could do an ESN swap (usually they want you to wait 30 days) and move your number to the touch and your wife would have the new number.
|
I thought about that... I believe I would have a charge on each line for the swap.
... I wonder how much that would run me? Would It be worth confusing "my callers" a second time to advise them I have my original number again. Not to mention all the bathroom walls that will have my updated, then Updated updated number. Might be more trouble than it's worth. UNLESS !!! A Sprint rep that is part of this community gives me a hand in putting all this together! That would rock =) |
well if you're very keen on keeping the same number you can always sign up for grandcentral (http://grandcentral.com/) and get a "universal" number that rings any or all your numbers. You can't make that your sprint number, but you can give it to people temporarily until the month is up.
Btw, I did that ebay thing for my 6700 and two other phones which i got for free and I got a month of service for free too (ask about that). But,, you can't do sero on those lines, you can't apply any employee discounts, you can't change your plan until a month is up and I also remember that I could not do an ESN swap or even a transfer of liability for 6 months so make sure to double check all those conditions so you get all the credits properly applied to your account. The ebay seller i got it from is no longer registered, so I don't know if they all follow the same rules. Also make sure that there's some kind of number or person you can reach by phone before completing a transaction. |
Well... I did one of the $99 deals on eBay. HERE or HERE.
Sweet deal. I got the Touch for $99, and I got the first month of service free. I will keep the new #, and give my number to tha Misses. I am moving my old line to a SERO account... and this new one will follow 6 months later. Good enough deal for me! PLUS... I got the Touch today! (next day shipping free) This thing is SEXY! ... must play for a while now... LATER! ~Sy(\) |
