Phone as modem

](*,)I have the 6700 and have always wanted to use it as a modem when I was on the run but it has never worked. I checked my user guide and it says I need "ppc6700sp by sprintdailer.exe" and "ppc6700sp by sprint.inf" on my cpu but I don't. It also says that those files should be on my "getting started" disk but I am unable to find them on that disk. As a result when I attempt to use "phone as a modem", instead of my computer saying "found new hardware" it says "usb device not recognized". If you know how I can locate those drivers please inform me.](*,)

The real question is which version are you using. I finally broke down and updated to the new WM6 using the 0.7RC1 kitchen. In that software is a much easier to use software called internet sharing. When you click on it and connect to your machine by USB it takes care of the rest.

The data modem way works but it requires a lot of manually labor to work correctly. I know because I spent a good while getting it to work before finding a simpler way. If you don't want to update your software this is the thread you probably are looking for with the drivers (which I have tested and worked on the firmware for me in both xp and vista). http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10061

itsa, is there any trick to getting the "Internet Sharing" to work correctly? When I try to use that, my computer doesn't get a valid IP address (169.xxx.xxx.xxx) and therefore can't browse the Internet. The old wmodem way worked fine, but I don't find those in my latest version 5 wm6. . . Do you have any thoughts?

HTC Apache Tips and Tricks/n00b guide (Please Read First)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright since the HTC Apache forum was getting a little out of had with all the stickies, I decided to compile the list and remove most of the stickies to tidy up. This will be a the main thread for posting all the basic needs of the HTC Apache and links to helpful info for n00bs. Please feel free to edit and add more mods.

1. If your HTC Apache didn't come with the newest ROM which is version 2.06.00 WWE as of 10/2/06. To check your ROM version, you can do this by going to start/settings/system/device information. If you do not have the newest ROM, you can upgrade using this tutorial here

2. If you want to send mms messages a.k.a. picture and video mail you will need to install this program and/or follow this tutorial here.

3. Here's a great guide for using your HTC Apache one-handed and programs that help with that.

4. Want to know how to use you HTC Apache as a modem, you can check out this tutorial for using the USB cable or you can check out this tutorial for using it as a modem via Bluetooth.

5. I created a custom .cab to implement a few registry hacks to improve overall performance of your device. Download and discussion available here.

6. Want to free up some more space. Then you can remove the "junk" software Sprint installs. You can do this after a hard reset or there is a non-hard reset method. Basically removes Audible player and its samples, get good and a few others to free up about 6-7mbs or so. If you would like to do this, see this tutorial here.

7. There are also many hacks/mods you can do to the registry of windows mobile devices. To see a list of hacks and what they do see this thread here.

This process should works if you follow "Rufus" instructions. I am able to use my PPC-6700 as a modem connection to my Notebook, now.

However, I am experiencing no USB ActiveSync (cannot find Device) connection since utlizing this method.

I hope to fix the problem today with the help of "Rufus" and other Forum members.

Good Luck! I hope this helps!
