Problems with WM6 and Windows Media Player

Ever since I started using WM6 rom's (currently using verizonguy's devel4) I havent been able to watch movies. Not only the landscape/portrait bug where it stays in portrait mode, but I have another problem. The movies sometimes play for up to about 5 minutes, and then they get all slow and choppy, as if I have 5 other programs running, but I dont have anything running in the background, in fact, I just tried it off a hard reset, and it was slow and choppy straight from the beginning. And its not my movie file, Ive tried like 4 different files, and the one im trying right now I've already watched on my PPC before while using a WM5 rom, any ideas, or fixes?

oh come on, 50 views and no replies? Is anyone else even having this problem or is it just me?

Hi, I got the same problem too. My video file size is 15Mb

well mr. patient
I hadn't watched any movies since upgrading to verizonguys wm6 v4, so I had to do some tests, which included ripping a movie to watch for more than 7 minutes.

And no, I don't have this problem. After first veiwing several short movies 5-7 min each on random and repeat, and then finaly watching the first 25 min of a full length movie(187meg). No I am not having this problem.

dont patronize me.
thats weird, I wonder what the problem is then...

(since you dont know me in real life, I figure I should tell you the "dont patronize me" is just a joke, no offense meant by it)

what is the player your using?
what format is the movie?
what size is your file?
what is the bitrate used on the file?

bf2loser 10-24-2007 12:12 PM

Windows Media player
.wmv
bout 200 mb
about 256 i think, somewhere in that area

but remmber, I watched this file several times (2 hours long) without ever having problems on wm5

I havent used tcpmp because it wont play my wmv's and im on linux and havent found any good wmv to avi for linux yet

nuguy 10-25-2007 05:47 AM

Well I have had better luck with avi's for larger files, but I'm not a linux guy so I don't have a good converter for you. I have not had this with smaller wmv's though.

Have you used S-Ktools to clean things up, that is always one of my first things I do, and I believe it helps with both speed and stability overall.

no, I just used windows media encoder (old files, made them a few months ago when I still used xp) and just shrunk them into a small enough file to fit onto my storage card

Not sure if this belongs in this thread or not, but it sounds kinda related...

I downloaded TCPMP for my 6700 when I was running WM5 and it worked fairly well on sites like google video and youtube.. my only complaint was that only the first few videos in a search (or even on the main page) would show up, scrolling down they'd just be empty boxes and no preview thumbnail. About 50% of the time, I'd find a video that would play and not return an error stating that the video is not a valid link. I guess I was ok with this setup because it's a hell of a lot better than what I've got now as far as video is concerned...

I'd like to add here that I am in love with Helmi_C's WM6! It's awesome! Payday I'm visiting PayPal.

So the problem now is, I can't even load the YouTube main page... it loads to about 90% and then locks up the phone, and I have to soft reset. Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm not sure what info you need from me, so ask and I'll get it.

Thanks in advance!

Don
