i hope so too b/c i tried the hack and it didn't work.

GaTo 10-28-2006 01:51 PM

i did the upgrade per the first post in this thread and it says that i've got the new rom dated 2/2006 (which is what it said before i upgraded) is this the most current?

Wideawake 10-28-2006 03:33 PM

yes its the newest. :)

pandaboy 11-09-2006 11:43 AM

Beside the ring through EVDO, what else is new in this update?

Wideawake 11-09-2006 12:06 PM

zip program, different comm manager, few tweaks, autocomplete (if I remember right that contained it), clear voicemail icon, and maybe a few others. Man its been so long since I had the older one. anyway if ur phone is newer it already has this. also it doesn't include the evdo ring through. you have to install the file in that thread for that. ;)

If I do the new ROM do I have to reinstall all my programs? I have alot that are I guess mainly on the SD card.. but some on the internal memory..Also, what speed difference? in programs or in EVDO connection? sorry for all questions but I don't want to have to do a hard reset unless necessary..

Wideawake 12-01-2006 11:00 PM

Yes u will have to install everything again, the notes were from the last rom, the new one fixes a few things like data roaming, see the annoucement for more info.

I upgraded to the rom, and I now have network connectivity issues. For instance, when I open internet explorer it says "the connection is offline" check settings. There's nothing in the username/password field in the network settings - is this something I should know? Thanks.

Wideawake 12-19-2006 10:19 PM

sometimesthis happens to me, either retrying or a soft reset normally fixes this issue. But I got it before the ROM upgrade also.

frashii 01-13-2007 04:25 AM

My ROM version is 2.11.20 WWE with a ROM date of 04/04/06

Could this be because I am with ACS (Alaska Communications Services) ?

Wideawake 01-13-2007 07:48 AM

yeap, u got the newest so ur good, u could try the custom. :D

new old apache

Hey guys, Im sorry to tag this onto the end of this thread, but I thought it was the most appropriate place. I have just received a new (hand me down) apache (IT guys are always the last to get stuff) - anyway I like it! What I would like to do though is to update the ROM the current rom is way old 1.03.00 WWE. What I would like to know is, can I take a backup of the current rom, for in the even that I have to restore it to original state. Second I live in New Zealand (the phone is on the telecom network here), am I still to use the SPRINT rom or what?

BTW great resource you have here!
cheers
Jurgen

Wideawake 02-27-2007 10:43 AM

Well I doubt u will be able to roll back to that old ROM. But u can use a OS only upgrade which most are here except the one in the first post that's sprints. On telecoms site theres an offical aku 2.2 which would be better than nothing until u decide to try out a custom 3.3 or 3.5.
~Mike

s0rtd 02-27-2007 07:46 PM

Thanks Mike, Im still a bit confused though. Does telecom (my carrier) put something into their rom which allows only that rom to work on their network? say if I wanted to upgrade to one of the custom roms, this one for instance: http://www.ppcgeeks.com/saridnours-a...pr4-t2805.html will my phone still connect to the telecom network and function as it normally would, or would it not be able to connect? I know about the esn and that other a2d (i thinks its something like that) - these tie with there network, so i couldnt just get a phone from overseas and have telecom add it to their network, but my phone is already on their network, i just want a better rom.

cheers
Jurgen

No, if you're on the network you can change to whatever "rom" you want to. The rom is just the operating system.

It may void your warranty should they find out, but that can only happen if you show their techs your phone with the updated rom installed.

You may want to choose carefully if the rom you want comes with an extended rom. This is carrier specific software(adware) that can and will affect your ability to connect to your carrier's data service.

There are plenty of roms that don't come with extended roms, and you can even install the rom without the extended part. It will usually specify in the description what all is included, and if an extended rom comes.

Re: How to upgrade Sprint PPC6700 from the old to the new ROM

You can't put 6700 roms on a 6800. Go to the Titan forum, that's where you'll find 6800 roms and directions.

Has anyone gotten this to work with Vista, because I get a connection error about a minute into the program and my phone just dimly displays USB at the top and then v1.00 at the bottom.

Re: How to upgrade Sprint PPC6700 from the old to the new ROM

Just upgraded from AV 6700 to newer version. Apparently lost the ability to listen to MP3s with bluetooth. Rep at Sprint store recommended this site to download "whatever" in order for me to be able to do same. Can't figure out where to go to get what I need.... nor do I even know what kind of a download or "patch" that I am looking for.

Please help if you can.

Thanks.

Re: How to upgrade Sprint PPC6700 from the old to the new ROM

Guys this rom is like 2 years old (WM5 Aku 2.2?) and it's that last official ROM from UTStarcom customized for Sprint. I just went to UTStarcom and got to the phone. You really have to read their website to get to the new site because they don't have a big sign saying cell phones here.

Here's the link:

http://handsets.utstar.com/phone_dow...carrier=Sprint

There's a pull down selection for your carrier through this link. This link is for SPRINT!!! So only start downloading if you're with SPRINT, If you're with someone else then select that carrier after clicking on the link.

If you want WM6 or WM6.1 goto the HTC Apache Upgrades forum... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53
You'll see kitchen stuff in the sticky area to make your own ROM.

Happy updating!

Re: How to upgrade Sprint PPC6700 from the old to the new ROM

The problem is that F-ing Audiovox got bought up and UTStarcom re-did all the links AGAIN! I'm bloody DONE updating those things. If you want OEM ROMs, dig through the site. F-ing webmasters.

Hehehe....well webmasters will do what they have to do. People could also just type a little more and do a little extra minor investigation....like visiting the website like I did. :D

Yes, but most people are too lazy to google utstarcom. And I got real sick of ten posts a day asking where to find the OEM ROM files. Until the last web update, I actually had a link to the file directory. That was nice. I'm ALMOST tempted to post them on my windows live skydrive. But it would probably eat all my bandwidth and MS would probly cut me off.

1. Do the ROM upgrade on a computer that has MS Active sync 4.1 installed, or install on your desktop before proceeding to step 2.

2. Sync all data you want saved (contacts, tasks, appointments, calendar, and files). Because the ROM update us like doing a hard reset. And note the device name of your PPC6700 as you will need to know this when u restore these things. You can check the device name by going to start/settings/system/about/device id.

3. Go through and turn OFF firewalls(even windows firewall), virus, and spy ware programs. Also make sure you change your screensaver and energy saver program so that they do not come on during installation, because this can cause problems when upgrading.

4. Download the new sprint ROM from HERE! its 43mb so make sure your on a high speed connection. This is a direct download link from utstarcom.

5. Once you have downloaded the .exe file and check to make sure your screensaver disabled. Plug your PPC6700 into your computer using the USB cable.

6. Run the .exe file and follow the directions on the computer screen. Note: The screen of your PPC6700 will dim but there will be a progress meter on it. The PC will also have a progress bar.
Est. Time to install =20 minutes

7. Power on your PPC6700. Rename you device to the same name it was before the installation of the new ROM.

8. Re-sync all contacts, tasks, appointments, calendar, and files back over to your PPC6700. And reinstall programs.

9. YOUR DONE!! Enjoy the many features added in the new ROM and the increased speed! Features include direct push capabilities, device lock, voice dial, and zip program plus many more features!
