ASSUMING you have a choice between Bluetooth and WiFi, it will be easier on your battery if you use the bluetooth radio via bluetooth dial up networking instead of the wifi radio ... bluetooth = smaller range = less battery strain.

agreed, but if I'm out and about and need to load a buddy an AP for a few minutes, this a perfect solution, no BT needed, no usb cable needed

Okay, i've followed all the instructions and can't get the Adhoc to connect? I'm running Helmi's WM6 with Verizonguys A2...anybody got it working with these ROM's...
