How do you develop Windows Mobile?
I have looked freakin' everywhere and all I can find is how to develop applications for Windows Mobile. I have the Windows Mobile 6 disc, Visual Studio 2005 Standard, and the stupid WM6 SDK.
Can ANYONE point me in the right direction to learn how to bloody make Windows Mobile for different devices?! |

Sorry if youve came across this already. hope this helps. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb278115.aspx

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
Yeah, I've seen it. Every Technet and MSDN article I can find is about either FEATURES of Windows Mobile, or how to write applications for it. Even my Microsoft Partner channel doesn't have crap.

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
Not sure what you're looking for. You should be able to make a new project for WM from Visual Studio. You can either run it in the emulated WM device, or hook it up to your real WM device. But I'm sure you already know that. I guess you're looking for resources? I mean, if you're writing in .NET, it's basically the same. What classes are available/missing from the CF is documented on MSDN.

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
Basically I am looking for resources on building WM from scratch. I don't want to create applications, I want to build my own Windows Mobile from the ground up. I want to learn how to make the ROMs from scratch, without kitchens and BuildOS, etc.

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
I looked into this too. I decided it would probably be way too complicated for me. It isnt anything like loading an OS on your home PC. Once you get these resources, it will likely be a very painful process. And for phones like the 6700, the builds are ported from other phones. I dont think there is a resource pack for the Apache... but... maybe you can come up with something. Anyway, here is the place you need to start: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/embedded/aa731407.aspx

here is a better link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb159115.aspx (for CE6 aka Windows Mobile 7)

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
MSDN is the best we have right now. Thats what we all use. Development suport on ppc flat out blows.

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
i dont know if these BSPs would be useful. They are the same chip but I dont know how that area works. Someone else might be able to speak to whether or not it would work... or if it could be adapted:

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
Now that I have a good link to a USEFUL msdn page, I think I'm headed in the right direction. It just sucks because last time I installed everything needed to do this, it FILLED my 20GB hard drive on my laptop. Visual Studio 2005 standard, Windows CE 6, CE 6R2 update, etc.

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
I admire your courage and determination. I really hope you have a lot of success with it. I think the BSP is going to be a critical component of this endeavor. Keep us posted on what BSP you end up using / adapting. At some point, I think I might want to go down this road again. I know that helmi and company did some good work with what they did, but I dont know if they went this scratch route. Our 6700 is a port from another ROM... but I dont know what "port" entails. Not sure if the platform builder was part of that picture. Keep us posted on your successes!!

Re: How do you develop Windows Mobile?
Yeah, those guys did a GREAT job! I'm not looking to undermine anyone's work, this is more for my own learning experience. I am bored with PCs, PPCs seem like a good newer frontier for me to delve into.
