Really bad battery life with the latest kitchen?
 

I wonder if anyone else is having this problem. Since I flashed with a rom from the latest kitchen, my battery life is horrid when talking on the phone. Last night my phone went from 70% charged to beeping at me to charge the battery during a 20 call. The other day I was on a call for about 35 minutes and went from 90% to 20%.

I haven't run any tests but I did not notice this happening until the latest kitchen came out. I normally use the phone about 30 minutes a day and am used to coming home with ~60% battery life.. now I come home with 20%.

The latest rom I cooked up has very little in it, it's very basic. Wifi, Beam, Data, Bluetooth .. all are turned off. It's not until I start using the phone that the battery drains quick.

I'm using radio 1.41 and have been for months.

I've been running a rom from the latest kitchen for about a week now and haven't had any battery problems. I've read through alot of the threads on here and don't remember seeing any one else having problems with battery life so it could just be the age of your battery. I had the same problem after about 9 months and ended up getting the phone & battery replaced.

I've been running the latest kitchen on the latest bootloader and it is running just fine for me.

Absolutely no way my phone stays charged the entire day...i ALWAYS have it plugged in no matter if i'm at work or home...

Everyone that i personally know with 6700's has the same problems...i only "hear" people on the internet say they don't...

I left it unplugged for 3 days over thanksgiving.. was up north and no one called me at all. Damn thing had awesome battery life then. ;)

I have shitty battery time too. Always did with this phone, stock or hacked.
Unfortunately I just deal with it.

I have 2 phones. Mine is used hard. Wife goes 2-3 days between recharges on hers - no email checks. Mine, no push, but 2 IMAPs, make it thru with 70-40% after 16 hours off charger, with no to light (2-3 minutes) of voice and 1 hour internet use, plus 2 hours mp3 playing daily, WM6.

My battery life has been significantly worse with the latest WM6 kitchen.

My battery life is almost twice as good as it was. Same battery as before now last almost a alf day longer. I charge my phone all night, Take it off between 5-6 AM, then that night I put my phone in flight mode at about 11PM and take it out of flight mode about 6 AM and it last till around 2-3 PM. I was lucky to make it till 9:30 the first night before WM6 with the power saving registry edits.

My battery life was bad with the latest WM6 kitchen. I flashed back to the first WM6 version and it is better now.

i uninstalled the helmi performance app to see if i get better battery life, but nope..
my phone drops below half way when i put it in off mode for a while off of a full charge... and this is no joke.

maybe its the factory battery finnally giving up on me, who knows.. i think its time for an upgrade anyways.. I remember wm5 and early versions of wm6 giving me outstanding battery life.

Yep, that's a first rate indication your battery has reached the end of it's useful life.

Guys, do keep in mind that these batteries will last about a year with normal usage. This phone model is over two years old at this point and I'd venture to guess most of the 6700s out there are at least a year old.

In addition, a lot of the cheapie replacement batteries available on ebay and the like are inferior to the OEM battery and will always show reduced performance.

There are also radio-related factors that affect batt life: your radio ROM for one, as well as your proximity to 1x and EV towers at any given moment.

I'm just saying don't be so quick to blame the OS for all your phone's foibles (not speaking to anyone in particular--just a general comment).

I've found the battery life on this rom to be the best of all I've tried.

I ran into a similar problem on the WM5 1.04 kitchen, when my stock battery started crapping out on me. I've since purchased some new batteries and all is well.

In case anyone's interested, I've tried cheapo eBay versions, one from lionebattery.com and one from Seidio. The Seidio has been, by far, the best performing.

OP, my phone used to have a problem just like this. Tell me, when your battery drops suddenly, does the back of the phone get very hot? It's almost as if the processor just flips the hell out all of a sudden and whap, your battery is gone. I have two 6700's, and when I broke the screen on one and spliced the two phones, using the working screen on my old 6700, I noticed that all of the big silver plates on my mainboard looked like they were coated in water residue, which wouldn't come off. When the phone was in standby, it would work fine, but as soon as I started using it it would heat up and my battery life would disappear. I decided to switch phones again, and the other 6700 had no problem like this. However, all of a sudden, wouldn't you know, corrupt radio. So I switched back, upgraded to WM6, and while it heats up every once in a while, the battery doesn't seem to get vaporized anymore.

If you added performance to your kitchen (overclocking), the default is to have the Enable dynamic cpu freq changes unchecked, Took me a week to figure out to check this box. Went from charging twice a day to not needing to charge for two days. "Start, settings, system, performance"

How confusing. Some get better battery life while others get worse after this flash.

Could it be minor hardware revisions of the phone causing the phones to react differently to the same code?

Extremely unlikely, and not for the cases mentioned here. In most cases, it's because people don't load the same software with the same configuration. A few of the early on cases were because some reg settings weren't being done properly in the kitchen (fixed some time ago).

For the record I charge my phone overnight, i wake up at 7:30ish and take it off the charger. Today was a lazy Saturday and I only have 3 calls in my log (its now technically 12:30 my time Sunday Morning) I Sync to a corporate Exchange server every 30 minutes on Saturdays (I get about 75 emails per Saturday and Sunday). I used my calendaring extensively for about an hour at a cubscout meeting planning crap. I have 80% battery right now..., the phone has 341 hours 21 min 5 seconds on it and is over 1 year old (Manufacture Date Jun 5th 2006) with an OEM stock battery (bought in OCT 2007)

My normal business day i wake up at 7:30 my phone syncs every 10 minutes to Exchange from 8:am to 6:00pm (i get about 200 email per day on a weekday), i use it extensivley for phone calls all day long as my career takes a lot of coordination with other engineers. I use my calendar extensively with loud alarms and voice notifications, I do not use BT or WIFI very often though I have an old motorola headset i use in the car when i remember (for safety) and have high speed WIFI at home which I use to download crap to my phone, but i only turn the WIFI on when I want a big file, then turn it off when i'm done surfing. I do not use MMS if that matters, I keep my brightness for battery level on the lowest+1 setting and dim after 2 minutes, suspend after 3.

After my lastest and greatest flash (Helmi 071117) on both my wifes and my 6700s we both NEVER need to charge before going to bed, and I can make it to 11:00a to noonish the next day if i forget (I have a charger at work, but if I forget I usually charge in my car on the way to work and I top off from 20% ish to 80%ish and make it through the work day)

The point is that if you arent getting decent battery its definately not the core ROM. I have had my battery crap out at work, but it has always been because i forgot to charge over 30 hours ago.

I changed my phone from 'hybrid' (EVDO or 1X) mode to '1X only' and my battery life doubled. I could actually make it an entire workday on one charge. I would assume this setting helped as I live in a small town that only has 1X service; so stopping the phone from continuously trying to find a EVDO tower saved power.

This weekend I was looking at my Active-Sync settings and was shocked to see that it was set to sync with the receipt of every message (Exchange server w/direct push at work). I changed it to sync every hour, I still get emails as they arrive but have to manually hit send/receive if I want changes I have made on the phone to sync to the server before the next hour. After about 9 hours today I was still at 70%.

I know my battery is about shot as it will die in 15 min with wifi enabled. I ordered a couple new batteries and can't wait to see how long a 'good' battery will last.

For me that is the most noticable in battery drain is using Wifi. I don't get but 30min or so using Wifi. I can't say for much else as it isn't activated and don't use data therefore.

I HAVE SAME ISSUE. i have seen this happen before - with ipaq 4700 new rom caused terrible battery life. entire world up in arms agianst hp for it...hp issued rom fix, which successfully solved the problem. SO I AM SAYING THAT THEIR IS SOLID EVIDENCE THAT A NEW ROM CAN CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I CAN LIST LINKS TO IT IF NEEDED FOR PROOF. OK, NOW THAT WE HAVE ESTABLISHED THE PROBLEM IS VALID.. WHAT NEXT.

If i remember details, something in new rom was causing outlook to sync
constantly instead of at assigned, or not at all times... so i think the outlook was running in background constantly when unit was even off, killled battery very quickly.

i am not saying this is the problem just offering a bit of info i have on it.

IF THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES...IT WILL NEED TO BE DEBUGGED.
PERHAPS ADD IN A THIRD PARTY POWER CONTROL APP TO THE KITCHEN THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.

I WOULD ALSO SAY THIS.. TRY REFLASH ROM WIHT NO PHONE PROVIDER AND ADD THE CAB FILE FOR PHONE SERVICE SEPERATLY AFTER FLASH...
USE AN OLDER VERSION OF PHONE CAB....NOT ONE IN KITCHEN... THAT COULD VERY EASILY SOLVE PROBLEM

I WILL RESEARCH TOO. IT CAN ALSO BE THAT THEIR IS SOME OEM POWER AND BATTERY CONTROL FILE OR APP THAT WAS LOST IN THE NEW ROM ..AND NO ONE KNOWS IT....

THIS IS HARD PROBLEM TO FIX WILL TAKE TIME AND EFFORT ON ELIMINATION OF POSSIBILITIES THAT COULD CAUSE IT.

ANOTHER ISSUE IS THAT SOME PEOPLE SAY THEY DONT HAVE IT.SOME DO....

PERHAPS IT IS ONLY PROBLEM TO ONE TYPE OF APACHE... MABY VERIZION MODEL BUT NOT SPRINT MODEL.... HARD TO SAY AT THIS POINT...

IF YOU CHECK BOX FOR DYNAMIC THEN YOU CAN RUN AT NORMAL 427 (OR WHATEVER IT IS , THATS CLOSE) AND THEN AS LOAD ON CPU INCREASES DYNAMIC PROCESSING BOOST PROCESSOR UP AS NEEDED...AND THEN BACK DOWN WHEN NOT....

Anyway, with this kitchen and a new battery I just got a month ago, I'm having no problems on a Sprint Apache. I'm still on Radio 1.27. I unplugged this morning at 7:00am, made and received 3-4 phone calls about 2-5 minutes each. Used WiFi for 20 minutes, used 1x data for 10 minutes, S2U2 running and it shuts off the phone after 1 minute. Still at 90% battery at 3:15pm my time.

...obviously a time machine was involved to accelerate the natural battery drain...

I guess it takes all types.....

I just got that extended battery and it really helps....I use it all day with bluetooth and music and stuff and it lasts the whole day no problem

The problem is, there are several versions of even the Verizon Black 6700. When I replaced mine through insurance (the first one was crushed), it was replaced with a phone that had different plastic (felt thicker), different icon on the physical OK button, and didn't have some of the functional issues I suspected were hardware problems (even running the original ROM).

So if hardware related, this could be harder to track down than 1st imagined.

1) What's the maximum size battery you can add with original battery door?

2) Is the 1800 mAh extended battery thicker than the 2400 mAh?

3) Is it worth the extra cash to buy a name brand battery?
(example, I found an AccessoryOne 2400 mAh for $7.00, and a USstarCom 1800 mAh for $60.00).

I dunno about 2 or 3, but the largest-capacity battery you can fit in the original is a 1500 mAh Li-Poly that's floating around somewhere, usually identified as "slim" "extended capacity".

3) depends. Name brands come with better warranties, and are likely a trace amount better quality. Sometimes off brands do not disclose everything, too. On the flip side, they charge a premium for being name brand. In your particular example, however, I'd buy the $7 battery in a heartbeat.

I'm just worried it will explode, a la' Dell laptop batteries. :)

Probably not. That's really a function of the charge rate, which just isn't all that spectacular on these tiny batteries. They'd have to build it extra crappy.

I picked up two of the $5.95 OEM batteries from eBay for around $23 including shipping. My phone has been off charger for 25 hours now and I'm still at 70%! The new battery combined with setting it to stay on 1x (no EVDO here) and changing the ActiveSync to not snyc on every receipt (now syncs every hour) has given me much longer battery life than I have EVER had. :headbang:
