animated boot screens(like htc touch) inquiry
is there any way i can get the animated "sprint ahead" logo and gif on my 6700? i love the way it starts up and i think this would complete my wm6 rom nicely... i've searched around these forums but have yet to see animated gifs for a startup screen like the mogul or touch units for our apache's ... can it be done? or modified to work perhaps?
|
any ideas....anyone??
|
the boot is animated on the touch?
thats neat! i know we GOTTA be able to do this on our apaches |

"it can't be done", meaning it's impossible? if the apache splash is not a gif, can that image be animated in some way in some kind of format that the apache is happy with? like fla or swf? just throwing random guesses out there...i have no idea what format the bootsplash file is or if other formats are availible

From the look of it it is the same static boot screen, but they have inserted an animation of some sort RIGHT before the WM splash screen. I suspect this is just a time wasting ad on and that loading has actually completed by this time.
|
From what i have seen it is not the boot screen or the welcomehead.96.png. The animated screen comes after the welcomehead screen.
Here are some links to get the ball rolling for you. I test both of these programs and neither one worked on the apache. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321638 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321503 Scroll down to Startup Splash in v3.7 B&B |
Heres another link. I salute you if you have the balls to try it. (I wouldn't)

It is an actual app that runs an animated gif. Unfortunately, it does not work on the apache as of yet.

I have no doubt that it's possible. It's a matter of finding people with:
1. The necessary technical level to investigate how the app does it 2. The necessary interest and time to devote to it So if you find someone (or a group of folks) with #1 and #2 then you'll probably see it happen. If you only have one or the other it's not going to happen. |

To make this even more challenging and to complicate matters even more... that startup animated logo also has a sound byte to go along with the animation! i know this mod might be very low on the radar compared to all the other great apps/mods available now, but i don't think it's any less important to all that would be interested in having this cracked for our model pda... |
Absolutely. I hope someone is able to tackle it. It's way beyond the scope of my abilities however. At least on the mogul (and I'd venture to guess the touch as well) the bits that get it to play are in the serial_btur.dll driver--which is obviously used for lots of other things as well. I'm not sure why HTC stuck it in there, but maybe that particular point of the boot process is when that driver loads.
There is also a reference inside ddi.dll (the LCD driver on the mogul)--not sure if that part is used or not. In all honesty I think it would be less difficult for someone to write an animated GIF player from scratch--but to get it to load prior to the Windows Mobile splash screen is going to involve hacking of drivers--which is like the hardest thing ever. So not to sound too discouraging, but that's what whoever chooses to tackle this (if they do) is up against. |
i like challenges but this is way out of my league, your right though...maybe the best thing would be to change the format it comes in to something we can use.

The other devices mentioned with animated bootsplashes have both larger memory spaces and different memory layouts. As for implementing an animated splash before/after/replacing welcomehead, that's much more readily done. |
gguru see my post after that one for further details. This is an OS-level thing that occurs whilst drivers are loading. It has nothing to do with the bootloader and .nb splashes.
|
yeah, I saw that...that's why I added the last paragraph in mine. Wasn't the original post about the boot splash?
|
gguru to my knowledge no device has an animated boot splash. Given the limitations of the format and bootloader etc HTC just displays either one or two static boot splash screens (.rsb format) then boots the OS and first thing while drivers are loading loads a dll that plays an animated gif file that exists on the device.
That's how it's done on all HTC devices now and I think that's what the OP was wanting to duplicate. |
Really? My bad. I had assumed the sub splash was the animated one, since it was the only one I didn't recognize compared to an Apache rom build. Should be easy to steal from another device if it's part of the windows boot process.
|
Well I think what makes it complicated (and out of my league) is that it's called from the serial_btur.dll driver on the mogul--which I believe to be hardware-specific and therefore not compatible with the apache. Someone who is knowledgable and adventurous could try it, however and see if it works.

You might just want to look at other apps that do things during early startup..
SPB pocket plus has a safe mode feature that seems to be able to run right between the system and windows splash screens.. If you disected the registry calls for Pocket Plus you might find a way to run an app at that point in the boot process. However I think it just wastes time.. |
has anyone been able to get just the gif? I would like to use it in S2U2.

rep4u++ thx :)
edit: i'm dumb. i thought SPCS_startup.gif was one of the other static gifs. it is i guess. if you were using the old rom or turned off the animation in the registry like you posted. thx again. edit 2: landscape pic - http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/382...startupqn3.gif |
That is a really nice start up gif.
Like i'm not even kidding! That is super cool. I wish Verizon would be that cool :( |
excellent work!!! that is the same exact screen i was referring to and would love to have this up and working on my 6700. i know that where there is a will there is a way....i am on standby!
