We need screenshots of the bootscreens.

vilord 11-05-2007 07:03 PM

The version of verizon customizations listed is 2.07. Are there significant changes from the 3.3 version? Also, how about the latest Arcsoft 4... thoughts?

hsingh00 11-05-2007 07:07 PM

you guys are great..:-)

troubledrican 11-05-2007 07:10 PM

im having problems loading the kitchen with vista. i compile what i want and make the build but when i get to the upgrade screen it goes into bootloader and disconnects so the phone info cant be read. then it is stuck in bootloader and i have to use uni bootloader to get out. ive tried 5 times with no luck. any help please?

No, even though dotfred's app is called Task Manager it does not really do the same things as HTC Task Manager and the other task-closing/x-button apps. It does a lot more than just registry (though I use it primarily as a reg editor) and is just an overall "must have" app IMHO.

Yes I had a look through the verizon 3.3 cabs and added anything that was relevant (almost nothing) to the verizon extrom OEM in the kitchen. I didn't increment the version number because, well I forgot :). I'll do that for the next release but for now rest assured that the verizon OEM is up to date.

I held off on including Arcsoft 4 until we get a well-tested fully working OEM. Even then it will only be offered for Verizon users (does not work for Sprint or Alltel). If anyone wants to proceed with that, go right head.

Please post what version of the bootloader you're running. Also try eliminating anything in between your PC and Apache (hubs, extension cables, etc) and try a different USB port on your PC.

Finally home from work, and playing with the new kitchen

A) OMG THE SHVEDISH CHEF BORK BORK BORK!
- love the buildOS app splash screen

B) No specific instructions on user OEMs - I assume they just drop into USER_OEM if they worked with the previous kitchen?

Yep. Anything you add there will get processed during the build so long as it has a dsm file with a valid UUID. You will get duplicate UUID errors though if you try to add an OEM that's already in the kitchen or ppcgeeks_oem.rar.

troubledrican 11-05-2007 07:38 PM

I am runnin bootloader 2.02 and I only have the usb cable that came with the pocket pc

Try putting the phone in bootloader mode first, then connect to the PC and run the RUU. Also, try both the standard RUU and the NoID one (definitely ensure you're in bootloader mode before using the latter).

troubledrican 11-05-2007 07:45 PM

ok ill give it a whirl when I get out of work im posting from my apache

rbshaggs 11-05-2007 07:52 PM

i was getting error 100 no device found so i tried running the noid ruu now i am getting error 150 this rom is not made for your device any suggestions

AstainHellbring 11-05-2007 07:55 PM

rbshaggs try installing while phone in bootloader mode

kyppcgeek 11-05-2007 08:06 PM

See the New BuildOS bugs forum for my post about a working apps list that is most of what you will need.

rbshaggs 11-05-2007 08:12 PM

ggaeta 11-05-2007 08:41 PM

OMGosh. i am no longer a kitchen Virgin. i made my first ROM. this thing is idiot proof, and i would know. THANKS, THANKS, THANKS to all who tirelessly made this a reality. WOW

However, I can't get BuildOS to open. Every time I try to open it I get an Application Error, "The application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000135)." And I just have to click okay. I've not gotten it to work a single time.

I was also getting the same error (might have been different Hex though; not sure) when I tried the .7 kitchen that I got about two weeks ago.

I'm running XP,sp2.

Any ideas? Did I miss some step where I had to download a supporting file or something?

I'm really looking forward to this!

You need to install the .net framework. I just had the same issue trying to run the kitchen on my freshly reloaded XP machine.

Snager 11-05-2007 08:50 PM

.dsm files

Thank you Helmi and everyone at ppcgeeks who had a hand in making WM6 + Kitchen available for all of us!

I'm still a newbie at cooking your own ROM's but I'm learning from all you folks here on PPCGeeks. I have also been messing around with creating your own OEM from cab files with some success.

I've tried looking for information on the .dsm files and all I found about them is that you create them using a text editor and assign a UUID as its name.
But when I look at .dsm files in other OEM packages I see that they are not just blank text files ..they have something inside of them ...cant read it with notepad.exe notepad2.exe or wordpad or anything I have, all i see is garbage... if anyone would help understand what goes inside a .dsp file ...I would be very grateful for you help

** in regards to my question about nk.nbf not found **
found out the reason for why i was getting nk.nbf not found error from luv2chill's post in bugs report...thanks you!

Personal OEMs dropped in fine, looking good on the build. Any advantage to changing the page pool?

tharris297 11-05-2007 08:57 PM

Very good job ... was worth the wait ... one thing though ... seems like the rom doesn't hold as much as far as OEMs go.

angel12 11-05-2007 09:00 PM

props guys. amazing job on the new buildos, this is what we were planning a long time ago, back when aku 3.3 came out, and now its all come together, bigger and badder than before! thanks!

now to start hacking my way around it

rodmann98 11-05-2007 09:04 PM

I am speechless. All of you that worked on this kitchen did an unbelievable job. This was definitely worth the wait. I have been through many different roms on my apache, and I am completely speechless. The whole package is unbelievable.

Thankyou

ggaeta 11-05-2007 09:11 PM

How do you add to the OEM list? I would like to add some of my own collection of CABs. Is there a way to do that?

You'll have to convert them to OEMs first, then put the OEMs in the USER_OEM folder. Conversion to OEM is not always easy. There is a writeup on how to do it by JBabey.

dpdurst 11-05-2007 09:31 PM

Going to attempt my first try at this and have a few questions, I have made a dry run to see how this works however the following questions I have before I commit.

1. everything across the top I have for apache, wm6, standard, htc.nb for the splash screen (I think this is ok running Verizon xv6700)?

2. I open up the build OS, select the carrier (no soft reset when done?) and then select the modules I want to add to the rom for features?

3. When I have all the stuff selected in modules, I select the green run arrow a the top and it compiles. Then I select the encode go to the correct tools folder and select the verizon.prj select next and encode.

At this point I get the software update utility and I put the phone in bootloader mode and go?

Do I have to select any modules or can I go with just defaults and add what I want later to play? Its seems I can just want to verify. Sorry for the questions, Just making sure and I know some of you have done this several times, I just want to be safe and make sure I understood this before causing a problem. Thanks

You shouldn't be adding an OEM that requires a anything more than a properly named (UUID), 0 length, .dsm file. If you'd like to initialize it, drop the folder containing the .dsm onto the BuildDSM tool (in the tools folder). .dsm files are binary data files...you'll need special software or a hex editor to look at them.

See how much space each program takes.. So I'm not installing memory hogs in, since I ended up with the same error..

I'm not sure, but it certainly seems like there is less that can be included with this system than in previous Kitchens.
Maybe it's just because there is just so much available, but I also had this happen the first five times I ran BuildOS. I had taken quite a bit out by the time I got one to complete.:???:

But I must say, it is a spectacular GUI and a smooth process.

I haven't actually flashed a ROM yet, but will soon.

WM6 is just bigger than past kitchens. Add to that that I've enhanced BuildOS to not allow scribbling all over sections of flash it shouldn't, and you get the net result of less free space to store stuff.

Throw in a PIM backup before and a PIM restore after, and yes, you've got it. The default selections are of a "stock" configuration. Feel free to leave as-is or change. If you truly want the C&S solution - uncheck everything (but you'll be wasting a ton of ROM space).

s10onn2o 11-05-2007 11:50 PM

holy SH** this is more than i even thought yall were going to come out with, I just got done with one and more than likely serveal more flash's and i must say damn this is the most customizable and easiest kitchen to use to date. Donate money will come in two weeks when i get paid and you guys take a well deserved break cause form the look of it you need it. GREAT JOB

guitardoc64 11-06-2007 12:02 AM

Installed the new kitchen and I'm in awe! Unbelievable work of art comes to mind, but still doesn't quite cover it. Compared to the kitchens of the past this one's like going from a horse and buggy to an Apache helicopter! Totally kickass! gguruusa, a fantastic looking build OS! Of course I cannot forget Helmi_c for the WM6! I salute all involved in this here at PPCGeeks. And I will "tip the waiters" but I first must take care of the chef!
