I've upgraded to WM6 .6c kitchen. I'm currently runing radio version 1.27. Should I upgrade to radio version?

Thanks

This is a question I have had for awhile as well.

First off, where do you find what radio version you have? I think I have Radio Version 1.00 but am not for sure.

Also does anyone know a site or anywhere I can find the advancements (or bug fixes, etc.) between the different radio versions? I mean is 1.4 leaps and bounds better than lets say 1.2 or whatever? Does it make the earpiece louder, the reception better, or stronger, etc.? Is there any known issues with the upgraded radio versions? Is this information listed somewhere?

I have searched for information on the advancements to the different radio versions but have been unable to find anything.

Please comment if you can steer me in the right direction. Thanks ahead of time.

Generally i have notice a battery usage decrease and reception increase. lil bit from 1.10 to 1.27, greatly from 1.27 to 1.41, and slightly with 1.41 to 1.43...

1.10 = VZW stock Radio
1.27 = Sprint upgrade Radio
1.41 = Bell upgrade Radio
1.43 = VZW upgrade Radio

So between 1.10 and 1.43 is a huge difference and a MUST have for the XV6700???

id advise against upgrading your radio.

but thats because i had radio trouble with phoenix's 1.41 radio, and then mine dissappeared.. :(

but good luck everyone :)

I'm on 1.41 & love it... have not bothered to go with 1.43 just yet.

1.43 here and it works like a charm. I'm actually noticing a decent increase reception wise thus far in most areas I had lower signal problems.

I'm on 1.43 and my battery was HORRIBLE on WM6. I've gone back to the 3.5 kitchen still using 1.43 and the battery still sucks. I was blaming WM6 for my battery problems but i believe it's 1.43.

i am on the verizon stock 1.10 with the verizonguy .4 dev version of wm6 and my batt is terrible. i don't know how to monitor what is using up the batt, but i really think it is something in the rom as i have not updated my radio. or maybe it is just a bad combination of things. maybe there is a rom + radio pair that works really well together?

This is a GREAT conversation, but towards a more technical end, outside of "making the connection" what does radio do and why does it need to be upgraded. I thought signal strength was a mix of power and antenna absorbability?!?!!? Any cellular scientists out there that can give a good layman’s scientific explanation???

Settings --> Device Information. Third item from the top, Radio version.

I think i am going to revert back to 1.41 for a couple days... I have been getting way too many DSOD's lately and nothing has changed but the radio... I even went as far as building a completely bare wm6 rom with nothing butthe bare necessities and was still getting DSOD's... I'll report back after i have tested more...

friguy3 11-03-2007 10:20 PM

went to 1.43 and dong great so far...ill keep you updated, but no problems so far

verizonguy 11-04-2007 04:24 AM

The radio won't cause DSOD.

The radio is the portion of the device that allows it to communicate and makes it a phone. Think of it as the operating system for the phone part of your device. v1.43 has been very stable and trouble free for me. Good reliability, sound, reception and clarity.

As far as battery issues, the WM6 roms that have been released including my kitchen have all been performance oriented. If you want to make your battery last longer, search your registry for power management entries and enable them. turn off beam in the communication manager and uncheck accept all beams. Those few things will signifigantly extend your battery life at the cost of performance.

You can also pick up a cheap extended battery on ebay, but they stick out a bit and may not fit your case if you're using one.
