Re: A call to arms - Windows 7 phone succeeds

Ok I read a few posts and want to put in my 2 cents. My first smartphone was a WM phone. Loved it. Plus the hacking appealed to the geek in me (as it does most of us). But I began to seriously get tired of doing all of these hacks just to make the phone perform the way I wanted it to, and I didn't want to leave Verizon (I like their network) So I got a Droid X. That phone is freakin awesome! Just about everything that I would want my phone to do, it does and it does it well, and fast! And if I want to add some features or functions, I can find an app for it. Easy.

That said I'm still a MS fan. I personally think MS is gonna be the quiet beast with WP7. They won't advertise how cool WP7 is or how it does all of these things like "Droid Does". I think that's a bad thing. I really want WP7 to gain Market share but if they only push it in a way that "gets you in and out and back to life" That's, well, boring. From a marketing standpoint, when I think Android, I think innovation and cutting edge cool stuff. But with WP7, I think plain common sense and solid performance and compatibility, which is the most important, but it doesn't lend to customization and innovation, which makes it plain and unappealing.
Right now, Android is the sport car and WP7 is the Minivan with the high safety ratings lol

Now I'm a geek, and I know better than to just look at some cool commercial, but the fact is that Android is more popular than WP7, it has more app development too (Apple just doesn't count to me lol), and it's going to take MS showing me how innovative, functional, customizable, and inclusive their phones can be, before I invest in them. That will take time b/c it's only been 3 months. So in the meantime, I'm chillin with my Droid X.

2 cents deposited...

What matters is if it sells! So now you'll have MS fanboys AND Nokia fanboys all over it. I think we should save this thread and revisit it in one year... See who takes back their words....

But what difference does any of this make if we can't get these amazing phones on our carriers here? The only ones that have it are the GSM carriers. Why? Because it has to be customized to work with CDMA netorks. That explains why no one has seen a Nokia phone pushed here in forever. The rest of the world, (which believe it or not is bigger than the US) is GSM, so MS is definitely gonna go in that direction and I don't blame them. But it still sucks b/c I like Verizon and don't want to switch to AT&T or T-Mobile.

Nokia just let go of their president of US branch and hired a sale guy from M$ as president of the branch to help push sales in the USA..

Re: A call to arms - Windows 7 phone succeeds

I wonder sometimes about that guy. Microsoft must have really hurt his feelings for him to constantly bash them. It doesn't bother me one way or the other and I've never made a big deal to anyone about it, but I wonder why he just doesn't enjoy his os and phone. Maybe if he had some facts, but everything is just opinion. All I know is i have it and it works pretty good, but it's not for everyone . I know he has ATT coverage, but if tmobile worked in his area, he'd be singing a different tune....he has coverage envy lol.
