Jeez, that thing looks awesome. Makes the Mogul look like junk.

Noob question, but who has HSDPA? Is that GSM?

divxrippimp 09-29-2007 01:28 AM

Yes HSDPA is the 3G of GSM... I think its technically called 2.5G...
T-mobile will after the gov gets out of that spectrum...
and Att is soon to have it or does in some areas?
Its still slower IN THE REAL WORLD than EVDO... But from a technical point its way faster than EVDO, it can do like 7.2mbps or something to that effect (theoretically)

I just love the flip up screen and the 128MB of RAM. I think if the Mogul had that, there wouldn't be much complaining. :D

jtrag 09-29-2007 08:13 AM

If my carrier gets those anytime soon, I'm going to be pissed! Unless of course they swap out my 6800 for one at no extra charge :)

paravis 09-29-2007 08:23 AM

I donno I think the mogul looks better. And what... this thing flips out a little? AMAZING ;P

Torx 09-29-2007 10:35 AM

ive had my eye on this baby for a while.

all you guys gotta say is.. "yes you can buy that off ebay", "yes you can use that on an american GSM network"

and i'll ditch sprint for it.
also, would this be a good future proofing phone for hsdpa?

edit2: according to at&t's coverage map, my house is "blue" for 3g network access here in memphis. does this mean i could get high speed internet on this phone?

I'm pretty sure HSDPA is indeed a 3G band. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Sp..._Packet_Access )

I've used an HSDPA AT&T PCMCIA cell card and consistently got ~4 Mbits down and 700 kbits up. With EVDO (not rev A) on Verizon I average around 1.1 Mbits down and ~110 kbits up. I'm in the metro Detroit area so I'm sure it'll depend on what coverage you have.

Cicatrize 09-30-2007 01:20 AM

Yeah, 2.5G is EDGE, which I've had before. It peaks at about 115kbps. lol

DVS_WiNdz 10-02-2007 12:13 AM

What do you mean why can't we get this? I've been using that phone for 3 weeks now.. If you're talking about it been available for carriers I think AT&T is coming out with it soon.. its called the AT&T 8925/tilt..

Jeff Kirvin 10-02-2007 12:26 AM

The 8925 may well be my next phone. Nothing coming out in the foreseeable future from Sprint is a noticable improvement over my Apache (the Touch is at least different, better in some ways, worse in others, but the Mogul is just an anorexic Apache with annoying limitations), and who knows if we'll even see any WM devices for Sprint's forthcoming WiMax network. So AT&T, with HSPDA and the ability to use pretty much any GSM phone (Expansys is your buddy), it starting to look more appealing. Now if only they'd confirm that they've finally rolled out HSDPA here in Denver (we were the LAST major metro area to get the upgrade, supposedly this summer, but the coverage maps haven't been updated since May).

And while the tilt may seem like a gimmick feature, it makes a HUGE difference when you're watching videos.

whatsinaname 10-02-2007 03:28 PM

I like the idea of kaiser/tilt, I watch movies/tv a lot on my phone. Unfortunately I am verizon CDMA :( if it wasn't for the 6700 I would probably still have a dell 51v pda and a dumbphone. I hope someday verizon gets some nice phones.

Until then I just prop my phone up at an angle with what ever is available.

Well....im not hating or anything ..it really is nice...HOWEVER..whats the point of it flipping up???? i just means when you type on it...you have to have your hands more upright than they have to be.....its not like your gonna set it down and type on it like its a laptop.=/

InvincibleLiving 10-02-2007 06:17 PM

yeah, i too always love the next newest hottest tech thing, but i'm not impressed by the tilt factor. what would wow me is if they slim the whole form factor down but still keep some 'weight' to it so it wouldnt feel cheep. make it like the thickness of the moto q or something and still keep the slideout keyboard. then we could talk. And yes any onboard memory increases are ALWAYS welcomed...

thats what i thought at first.. but it comes in handy sometimes.. when i'm watching videos or something i just place it down and tilt the screen up and i can lay back and watch it.. and when i'm busy doing other things and have my messenger on I don't have to pick up the phone to see who IM'ed me.. I find it pretty useful.
