What phone started your love afair with PPCs?
 

I was just thinking how far our phones have come as the TP2 is virtually a laptop in the palm. Then I became curious as to how we all ended up here. I got my first cell phone , a Samsung flip something about 9 years ago. I was always intrigued with how huge the screen was compared to other cells at the time. I was equallyu impressed with Sprints vision and the fact that I could serve the Web at work while everyone else was bored to death. I went on to buy a few more flips until I innocently enough ran into the phone that started it all for me: the Samsung I500. I bought one in mint condition off of ebay for $100 and was amazed at what the phone could do. I actually had no idea what I was buying until I got it and started to read the manual and paly around. I remember showing the phone off to eeryone I knew proclaiming that I pratically had a small computer in my hand.

The real love affair started with the 6700. I remember wanting one really bad but could n't afford the $500 cost - no upgrade eligibility. I talked to about 6 reps who told me nothing could be done to get me the phone at an upgrade price. I had a best friend who always told me if the first ten people say no keep asking until someone say yes so I said what the heck. The seventh person, a supervisor asked me "is that all you need Mr Evans, the phone will be shipped out the first thing tomorrow". I couldn't believe it and could wait until I got it. I still had no clue what I was in for. After playing with it for a few minutes, i could not believe how far technology had come. This blew the Palm out the water. Needless to say we all know how much further we have progressed yet. People call me gadget man but I just like knowing that I have a device in my hand that can do almost anything. BTW, as soon as my wife called to confirm (after my ten calls earlier)that the TP2 had arrived I locked my computer screen and bolted out the building driving 45 minutes home.... lol Anyone else care to share their stories? :???:

I can tell you this, few years from now when you look at the TP2 you would ask yourself was this phone ever this big?

I started with a Palm Treo 750. I was kinda surprised at its abilities even though it was old. I started playing around with it and got hooked. The only problem was it had a square screen so there werent many apps. I found out what Hard SPL was through that phone. I basically used it to test different things before I got my TP2.

Ive had a 6700, 6800, 6900, diamond, tp, and now the best phone I've ever owned the tp2. I cannot wait to get a custom rom on this thing. I can't believe how far the looks and the tech has come on these phones.

i also started with the HTC Wizard from AT&T, then switched to Sprint with the Mogul and you can see my PPC history in my sig =)

im as anxious as everyone on this board for the unlocking and flashing to begin on the rhodium!!!

I remember seeing the IPAQs back in the day and drooling. Money was limited back then though so I couldnt afford one. I am not rich or even close, i can pay my bills, but I would drop 600 or 700 in a heartbeat for the right phone. Its all about what makes you happy and adds quality or even percieved quality to your life.

Sorry about that but it ended up in the TP2 forum becauase that what I have right now and this is where I live. I am sure that the mods wont hesistate to move to the correct place once they deem it expedient.

Very true! I actually got my iPAQ heavily discounted to like $150 from someone that worked at Best Buy. It's hard to imagine how I used that thing without it being a phone, but I did!

Anyway, I started with the 6700, then to the Mogul, then the Touch Pro and now the Touch Pro 2.

Audiovox Thera, Hitachi G1000, PPC 6600, 6700, Mogul, HTC Touch, Mogul (again), Treo 750WX Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 I think Ive conered them all LOL its more than a love affair its an obcession

mine started with the 6700 and moved it to verizon during the time the hspl came out for the mogal, then i tbought a verizon mogal from craigs list for 150! then called verizon and got them to send me a replacement( i didnt have insurance or a real reason just told them software didnt load) but they never ask for me to send other phone back so i kept it( both still activate and work %100)! then i got a sprint touch(never used the phone onscreen keyboards suck back then) from a friend that was going to at&t (to get the iphone) then i bought a sprint touch pro ( from craigs list)for 150 and moved it to verizon! then i got my tp2(vzw) for close to $70 before taxes ! when the leo hits verizon or sprint i will buy it asap!! and for the record i do not do esn cloning i social engineer ever esn into verizons dnd!! all of my sprint phones are 6700x2, 6900, touch pro the only verizon phones are mogalx2 and touch pro two!!!

I had few smartphones, but my first touchscreen ppc was the 6600. huge screen and slow. But i loved that thing. The way the buttons on the top were placed made it work well for SNES games.

I get a kick out of logging on to PPC Geeks and looking at the pictures of the various phones to the top and being able to say, I had that one, and that one, that one , that one ....... Heck I bought my wife an Instinct and later/currently a Pre just so I could try them out. I knew I dont want to leave Windows so that way I get the best of both worlds. BTW, I've had a Samsung I500, PPC 6700, Mogul, Touch, Diamond, Pre, and now the TP2 and if the Leo had a Keyboard , I would be trying to get that too. I think a keyboard is a must for typing long emails.

For me it started with the 6600 & on from that the 6700, 6800 Touch Pro & now the Touch Pro 2. It's only been a lil over a month since I purchased my Touch Pro 2 & I'm already eyeing up the HD2

When I picked up my Tmobile Dash/HTC Excalibur in 2006. That phone is so rock-solid that my daughter uses it to this day.

XV6600, 6700, 6800, Diamond, omnia, touch pro, touch pro2 , imagio. but the xv/ppc6600 (blue angel) started it all. wm2003 and being able to see (most)web pages on a cell was a new beginning. next in line Omnia2,, Droid, and Leo

No.... History has already been this route. Phones have already been too small and the fad now is larger more handy device. A larger device allows for a larger screen and keyboard(if availible).

Like I said, we're no longer waiting for devices to become really small, it's already happen. Small is not usable.

Now it's about price/function(s)/screen/speed.

I was ready back when HP Jornada was out before phones even existed. My first PPC Phone was a TMobile Audiovox 6###. I was pretty good back then and I have never deviated from the PPC (win mo) line. So I have always had the CE products. Although I really like the touch pro 2, I think that the carriers are really hindering these devices, unfortunately and they will never be able to touch their true potential until they start making a commitment to designing the appropriate software layers, until that happens flashing is needed.

I would have to say that it was not a phone that got me hooked on PPCs. I started with a Dell Axim X30 and then move to an Axim x50v and then x51v. I really fought against going to an all in one device because I didn't want to give up the large VGA screen, but I caved and got the 6700 while I worked at Sprint. From there I wrestled with multiple phones (700wx, Mogul, Touch Pro), but I was never really happy or felt like I got the best of both worlds until my Touch Pro2 arrived. Finally a phone with a large, beautiful screen and it's WVGA, a step above what I had with the X51v.

I really wanted a Hitachi G1000, but at the time I was issued a 6601 (Seen in my signature.) by my company due to restrictions on cameras. :(

For me it was the the IPAQ 3630 back in 2000...Had just worked a ton of overtime and it was burning a whole in my pocket. My first converged device was the Samsung I-700...Never thought the US Carriers would finally get their arse's in gear and catch up with the rest of the whole and start offering the HTC lines. Thank goodness they did. I love this phone!

It started for me with the 6600, and if they had released the EVDO update I'd probably still be using it! But they didn't, so I went 6600, 6700, 700wx, 6800, Diamond, TP2. I still look for a cheap 6600, just for sentimental values and as a back up.

XV6700 for me. Still have it as a backup. My daughter uses it & a 4gb card as a mp3 player & gaming device. :-) Using it actually made me get the TP2 instead of waiting for the Omnia2. I'd been using the Omnia since December & it died. I used my trusty 6700 for a few days waiting for the replacement Omnia from VZW. Didn't realize how much I missed the keyboard.

It all started with the Moto Q that I got on sale at Alltel. It was my first foray into Windows Mobile. I got it in August 2007 & pretty much just used it stock. That was until I came across this forum & saw how great a smartphone could be. After my girlfriend got a Palm Treo I moved up to my first HTC phone, the Titan. I was hooked after that and have never looked back. Then I got the TP1 (which is still a good looking phone by the way) and most recently the TP2.
I've become a real fan(boy) of Windows Mobile; preferring that platform over all the others. I've really become a fan of HTC PPC's because of all the tweaks & roms that I can use to enhance my phone. (man I really miss WM6.5, I can't wait until the TP2 is HSPL unlocked )

Mogul was the only phone I really didn't like much from the start but it was my first touch screen so I still had lots of fun learning.

I move from site to site depending on who has the best following for the device. The mpx200 had me at modaco most of the time where i flashed my first rom upgrading to wm2005 lol. The dash was @ howard forums and XDA. The Mogul brought me here and stayed through the touch pro. Imagio will probably keep me here as well since it is so close to the tp2. Once they are both unlocked roms will probably be fairly easy to port one way or the other.

My first was the Palm Treo 650, 700w, Samsung 760, 6800, Samsung Omnia, Touch Pro, Samsung Saga, and now my newest is the VZW TP2

my first windows mobile phone was one of the older palm treos, i cant remember exactly, but thats when is tarted liking windows mobile, and have moved between many different phones and OS, but then came back to windows mobile when the touch pro came out.

For me it was the PPCPE from T-Mobile. It was pretty bad out of the box, but XDA helped with that. But I ended up getting rid of it because the data was snail like. It was a couple of years until I got the 6600, which on 1X was tolerable. :)

It was a rainy afternoon, my friend Shawn at work had shown me his apache and I was impressed by the device. So I ventured to HTC's website to browse their various PPCs. At the time they had a two PPC's that peaked my interest: The touch diamond and the touch pro. My upgrade eligibility was a non-factor and buying a phone outright was out of the question. To ebay I went the fateful day. Looking at the prices of the diamond and pro. It appeared with my budget that I would have to settle for a diamond, seeing as it was about 80-100 less on ebay. Then while pondering the prospect of picking my premier PPC I perceived a puzzeling picture provided by a peddler proclaiming to provide for payment a HTC Touch Pro Diamond. The listing attempting to garner more traffic through superfluous keywords had by the erroneous title defeated the ambition it had in its design. Seeing that the image was not stock, and the device in good condition, I placed a bid on the item. The ordeal concluded with my ownership of the TP for the diamond's price, and a love for PPCs.

I went from a Motorola E815 to the XV-6700, XV-6800 and now to the Touch Pro 2.

What did it for me was the silly Verizon GUI interface that was being installed on the dumbphones regardless of who the manufacturer was. The 6700 gave me a lot of options for customization which is what I wanted.
