Smartphone on Pay as you go service?

Hello,

I'm a long time Pocket PC PDA user and I've never had a cell phone due to the cost per month.

But now that there are pay per minute/pay as you go "plans" I am now going to take the plunge. But ... the more I thought about it, I began to wander if I wanted to have a cell phone and still carry around my Ipaq.

So, here is the question: Can I use a smartphone, such as the HTC Touch Pro 2, on the At&t GoPhone pay as you go service? Or Boost Mobile? Or any of the pay per minute networks?

What Windows Mobile phones would work best for this and which service would be best for this?

I do not need any of the "Data Plans" - no push email service, no texting, no nothing but basic phone service.

Thanks for your time,
L. Lee Saunders

Any gsm phone smartphone will work on a pay as you go plan. I have a kaiser on a AT&T and Tmobile pay as you go plan. The only problem is the data charges if you use data. Most CDMA phone will work on pay as you go but only if the carrier accepts the esn in there system. Which many block because they know it is a smart phone.

you can always get on craigslist. buy a phone if you dont already have one.

go buy a 20 kit from wallmart. activate the phone. put the sim card in the PPC and your set.

Edit: i would say go with ATT

cricket is a good alternative if you know how to flash it, they accept just about any CDMA ESN rather or not it's a PPC. I have 2 Vogues right now and previously had a TREO and a Titan. By far any HTC will be the easiest to do it.

yes you can. at one point i was using an ATT pay as you go with a HTC FUZE(touch pro) just for testing. worked fine. data isnt cheap if you use it.
