Weird problem with ringtones

Okay so I have put my ringtones under the ringtones folder on my device, I have also put them in the windows folder as well and I can't assign any of them for actual ringtones for incoming calls. However when I go to settings, then sounds and notifications and I select notifications and choose a sound for missed calls, all of my ringtones are available for my missed calls notification. Why can I see all of my ringtones for a missed call event but not an incoming phone call event? And when I go to settings then click on phone and select ring tone, none of my ringtones are there? This only happened to me after I downloaded 6.1 for my Kaiser, before that I put my ringtones under My Ringtones on my device and I had no problem. This doesn't make sense.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

That is weird.. Wish I could help you... You can assign ringtones still, right?

I believe this is just a stupid windows issue. You have to assign the mp3 as a ringtone through file explorer(right click assign as rongtone). Once you do that it will appear in your ringtones list when selecting a new one.

More weirdness

I right clicked all of my ringtones and they moved from my windows root to the My Ringtones folder, however when I go to settings sounds and notifications and or settings phone and ring tone, none of my ringtones are there still. However when I go into the My Ringtones folder under my device my documents, and I right click the song that I want as my ringtone it will assign that one song as my ringtone and it will even show up on my home screen and I tested it by calling from my work phone and the song played, however I tried calling my phone again and then it went back to the default rings. This is crazy, its like something is blocking them from showing up as ringtones but the weird thing is the one song that I wanted to play played when I called but then it went back to the default ring tone. Can anyone recognize what is going on with my phone?

BigDiesel07 I can assign ringtones but only the default stock tones.

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

Everything is stock on your phone? No custom ROM's or anything? Can you list the programs you have running? One of them might be causing the issue...

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

The programs that I put on is G-alarm, monopoly and I think Kaiser tweak was installed correctly and that's it. Ohh and a transformer sound for the slide.

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

Maybe the G-Alarm is causing the issue... I can't say for certain.. What does the Kaiser Tweak affect? Like, what does it tweak?

To be honest this is going to sound dumb but a friend who has a Titan gave it to me and recommended it, I don't know what it does to be honest I know that sounds dumb. I think it just affects the sleep feature So do you think I should take G-Alarm off then see if it makes a difference?

Move all of your ringtones to "application data > sounds" see if they show up then.

thats where mine are and they all show up

I would try this first... If it doesn't work, then yeah.. I would remove each program, one by one, to see if they are causing the problem... Make sure you have the .CAB for the program you remove so you don't have to rehash and go through a long process searching for it...

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

G-alarm shouldnt be causing the issue. Try my method and let me know if it worked.

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

Okay then.. I would not remove G-Alarm then... It was just a guess anyhow... Hopefully Shaun's method works..

So I moved everything out of windows root in order to free space and move the ringtones into the application data sounds folder and then I right clicked one song to set as my ringtone, either way the one song that I clicked to set as a ringtone and the other songs that I did not right click as a ringtones none of them are coming up as options as ringtones either in the souns and notifications folder or the phone folder.

Go to settings, Sounds & Noticfications and scroll completely down the list. They should be there. That Application > Sounds folders is one of the default WM sound folders. Anything put into there can be selected as a ringtone from w "Sounds & Notifications"

Actually I have not Hard Reset my phone and I'm thinking about doing that I appreciate your guys' help. shaun0207 when I go to sounds and notifications select notifications and scroll down the list for ring tone, my songs aren't there. I don't know what else to do except do a hard reset. Thanks you guys if I continue to have problems after the Hard Reset I'll let you know.

By the way to do a hard reset, I go to settings, clear storage and type the 1234 right?

At&T Tilt

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

To do a Hard Reset on a Tilt - - - > The method to hard reset is to hold the two soft keys (the two with the "-" dash on them) while pressing the reset button (hole on the bottom.) In other words when it's reset if you're holding those two buttons you'll initiate a hard reset.
It'll ask you to confirm by pressing the green phone button (the send button).

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

Okay so I hard reset it

I took one song from my storage card and put it under my device/Application Data/sounds

Then I went to settings/sounds and notifications/notifications selected Event: phone: incoming call ring tone scroll box and my song isn't there.

But when I go to sounds and notifications/notifications and then choose event Phone missed call then different boxes appear which is play sound, display message on screen, flash light for then a box for the amount of minutes, and a box to check vibrate. Mind you these options weren't available for me when choosing a sound for an incoming call, the only options that I had for choosing an incoming call were ring type and ring tone, with a play and stop button. (Not sure if this makes a difference)

So I go back to the Event: Phone: Missed call box and I check the Play sound box and guess what...my ringtone is an available option. I also notice that I have more default rings to choose from when I select the missed call option verses the incoming call selection. Is this just a problem with windows 6.1? This never happened with windows 6.0

Also I never right clicked the song after it went into the Applications Data/ sounds folder.

By the way I did all of this before I installed any programs on my phone, however when I installed G-Alarm back on my phone it had the songs and the times that I had saved for my alarms. If I did a hard reset, why did it save my settings for my alarms, even though I had to re-install G-Alarm? Also I have a few files on my storage card that have a windows symbol with an empty square next to them, can I delete these files? There shouldn't be any system files stored on my memory card they should all be on my actual phone correct?

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

That is weird... Well... At least your phone is fixed now... If you did a Hard Reset, all the windows files should be on the phone and the one's on your storage card are duplicates... So I say yes, you should be safe to delete them... I am happy you were able to remedy the problem!

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

I actually wasn't able to fix the problem, the ringtone that I put in the application data/sound folder was only available for my missed calls notification, not my incoming phone calls, so I'm guessing no one knows what to do?:???:

I just downgraded back to 6.0 and I have no problems, I guess 6.1 has some problems.

Thanks anyways guys.

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

So I did a search for my problem and it seems like this is a common issue for Tilt users who upgrade to 6.1 for some reason. When I had my black jack one, I couldn't use any music file as a ringtone. I had to adjust it threw PHM registry. Looks like Tilt users who upgrade to 6.1 have to do the same thing. Here are some websites for those who may have this same problem I am STILL dealing with.

http://social.microsoft.com/forums/e...2005bd/#page:1

http://www.mobilejaw.com/articles/20...for-ringtones/

For those who don't have a PHM registry file when you go to this website
http://www.phm.lu/products/Smartphone/RegEdit/
a few people like myself had problems with the desktop version that you would download threw active sync so download this version the Pocket PC 2002,2003 (ARM/PX)

I'm still trying to figure out what is going on with my ringtones. I had two of my ringtones show up but the others still did not, so I think I have to play with the size. I'll keep you all posted if I ever get this fixed. I took a look at the size of the file of the ringtone that I want to use and I noticed that it is smaller than the rest of my ringtones. For example, the ringtone that I want to show up and that did show up is 595k the default ringtones are like 42.3k with the highest being 114k. The other ringtones that I want are much larger like 2.60M. So I am guessing this is an issue that has to do with the size of the file and not windows recognizing the file type. So I will keep playing with the PHM registry and see what I come up with.

Re: Weird problem with ringtones

FINALLY! So it was an issue with the file size, I basically set the PHM to a terabyte and now its showing all of my ringtones. If anyone knows a Tilt user with these same issues refer them to this thread. Thanks diesel and Shaun for the help
