caller hears a beep when you are in a call

For years Verizon has had what I call a feature, and I guess some call a privacy issue.

The caller hears a beep (in the end of the ring) when you are in a call, that way they know you are in a call, and don't try to call you back 43 times thinking your phone is not by you, or silenced.

I love this feature and have come to rely on it.

Verizon has now disabled the "feature" and will not be bringing it back.

***Does ANY OTHER PROVIDER offer this feature?***

It is NOT a "ring-back tone" as we know it, yet it is called that by Verizon customer service.

I'm sad to learn that. I always liked that feature, although very few people I know actually knew what it was for. So I was usually barraged by many phone call attempts from friends.

My grandpa had verizon before i steered him to Alltel. That explains the odd tone after hearing the ring. Well at least i know now. But they should bring it back and let the customer decide weather its on or not tho.

alltel has this CRAP by default too. I used to work there, this feature is called "distinctive ringback". It is a feature that tech support can remove, but the problem is everytime a change is made to your account, it re-activates, and you have to call and have it removed again. That one reason i love sprint. None of that trash.

So Altell does have this? Can anyone confirm that?

I know Verizon dropped it about three weeks ago. does Alltel *still* have it?

Yeah I guess vzw still has it in two markets and it is going away in those markets 'soon' too.

theres a thread about this somewhere for sprint phones from about a year ago. Probably too deep in the forum to find though. I believe they did find a way to clear it with Sprint phones also. I don't mind, but I can see where sometimes you may not want someone to know.

I WANT THIS - I am NOT trying to get rid of it.

Courtney are you telling me sprint has this?

This feature was used by a cell phone company called Movistar for many years it was standard and no way to remove it directly from your phone. I was a customer with this provider for only a couple of months and the beep letting callers know you where already talking on the phone was one of the many reasons I switched. In 2007 they removed the beep because so many customers complained about privacy.
