It appears to be the OS that has been distributed to manufacturers for customization/testing. You need a CD key for it, and a few other programs; net cf 2.0 (FOR PC, don't worry Mal), and a C++ program I didn't know.

I'm confused.

This isn't Crossbow.

Windows Embed CE is the base software for embedded systems for enterprise and usually forms the core of WM but it is not WM itself.

WinCE 6.0 is actually "Yamazaki" and has nothing to do withi Crossbow but WILL be used in Photon (mid 2008)

Has no benefit for us though. :dontknow: :evil3:

I dunno but I will be checking it out later as Im at work right now....Ill let yall know what I find. But it does say
Quote:

This CE 6.0 Evaluation Toolkit includes the full functionality of the product, designed to run for 180 days. After 180 days you must uninstall the product, license the full product version of Windows Embedded CE 6.0, rerun setup, and follow the instructions. Projects started with the evaluation version can be ported to the full product version.
So this looks like it may just be the toolkit to develop for it. :(

It's not even that.

This is just the core kernal that Photon will eventualy run on but it has no "photon" features. It's just the base. These systems are used for mini-computers system, ATM machines, kiosks, special hand-held devices, etc.

You won't find one single thing about Photon or Windows Mobile in there. Zero. It can't even help people develop for WM 6.

You can read about Win CE systems here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_ce

But this is all very public knowledge. Trust me: Crossbow will come out when a device is released with it

And photon? Everyone is under NDA so you won't here jack about it for months and months...

Windows Embedded CE 6.0 helps device makers be successful and provides developers with a complete portfolio of tested, selectable OS components. In addition CE 6.0 provides source code access and compatibility with several processor architectures.

Malatesta 12-05-2006 02:08 AM

lol but what's the point?

This isn't Windows Mobile but rather the kernal system which forms the core.

Listen, play with this all you want but you won't get anything useful from it. MS is not putting the next-gen Windows Mobile on the web for anyone to download

Everyone really needs to sit down and read about how this stuff works!

It's not a secret either but has been all over the tech-news sites:

Wideawake 12-05-2006 02:12 AM

I know its not secret heck its a 180 day trial, and I DONT know what it includes, u may be correct on it not being worth anything for WM but I will be looking into it, when I get to my desktop with MSVS on it.
