Google Maps without data connection
On many occasions I would like to be able to access and use my Google Maps when I do not have an active data connection (Yes, this is possible with WM 6.1). In WM 6.1 it was possible to look up locations that I had already viewed which were stored in the cache.
When Google Maps is run on Windows Mobile 6.1 and the "Network Unavailable - data connection required" error screen appears, you can press the "Cancel" softkey at the bottom of the screen, and continue to view the maps you have in your cache. http://forum.xda-developers.com/imag...lies/smile.gif However I just upgraded to WM 6.5, and now the "Cancel" option no longer appears. There is just an X that closes the entire program. ](*,) Is there a way around the "Network Unavailable" screen in Windows Mobile 6.5 when there is no data connection??? Better yet, Is there a hack that would keep the error from popping up at all??? Please help. |
Re: Google Maps without data connection
sounds like an issue with your rom and not wm 6.5

Re: Google Maps without data connection
Sorry guys. I just discovered something.
When you run Google Maps for the first time after doing a fresh install, the "Cancel" softkey option won't be there. You will need a WiFi(some kind of data) connection the first time you run the program so it can download some map data to work with. After that the Cancel option will show up. |
Re: Google Maps without data connection
yea otherwise there will be nothing in the cache to go off of. why u looking for data free? is it your carrier that doesnt have coverage or is it your plan?

Re: Google Maps without data connection
Cause I'm cheap. Google Maps is the only thing I need data for, and I use it only now and then.

Re: Google Maps without data connection
I get slow internet so Google Maps load very slow (a long with everything). Normally, I save the Google Maps folder in Application Data before flashing rom.
I wonder if there is a cache file that contain the entire world that can be downloaded. |
Re: Google Maps without data connection
Could someone please tell me how to download and save an area of maps. I go hiking and hunting and it would be real ideal if I could just DL the maps for the area and use them when I am out of service. thanks for any help.
