Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I was going to order that a couple of weeks ago, but after reading the reviews there are a bunch of people saying the speeds aren't truly class 6.

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I got this card about two weeks ago and from NewEgg and it so far its been great.
No read or right issues or anything. I read about that less then class 6 stuff too but decided to try it anyway. When I got it I tested it with HD Tach and as far as the "average" R/W speeds I was getting a consistent 6.7 to 6.9. I tried some of those other benchmark testers they mentioned and indeed got lower speeds on some stuff and then higher on other. Makes you wonder exactly what they use to define the class thing. At any rate, for a 16 gig card at that price even if it not class 6 at every speed I think its still good. As far as I'm concerned I'm fine with mine. |

I can also attest to the quality of the card. I bought one of the RiDATA cards when it was $53 or so, right when I ordered my TP2. Its been a great card, and I've not had any issues with data speeds.

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
Same as above. It works where I had problems with a SanDisk card. Love it! No regrets
|
Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
it has been great for me for the last couple months, but i never tried any speed tests on it. i believe i read somewhere that once it has been filled with data and then deleted, the speeds were better

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I'm not sure why a class 2 card would not be recommended. I suppose if you can't stand wait an extra minute to transfer data and/or you constantly empty and then completely refill the card. Otherwise the faster speed is pretty much unnecessary, but at that price who cares?

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
So I got my card and I transferred all my files from my 8gb. I noticed my phone was booting pretty slow with it in. I took it out and it booted normally. I thought maybe the programs I installed to the card might be the issue. So I uninstalled the programs. I'm now reinstalling Beejive to SD card and it's been installing for the last 10 min. So I reformat the Ridata and copied everything back on. But still the same. I just restarted it and I tried running Igo8 that was in the card and it's very slow to open. I wonder if I got a dud.
EDIT: I tried installing Total Commander to sd card and that too is taking forever to install. |

The main one I used was HD Tach. Its one that has been around for a long time so it should be real easy to find. After you install it just Sync up your device direct to the data card so that the card is shown as a removable disk on your PC and HD will find it. As I think I wrote before both with the card basically empty and about half filled I was getting a 6.7 average R/W score. |

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I tried HD Tach but won't complete the test.
So I reformatted the card to Fat32 and chose default allocation size and was still slow. I reformatted it again and notice it said 8192 already so I assume that's the default. So I chose a lower one 4096 and it seems to be normal now. I took a pic and it saved like normal and installed Beejive to card and it installed normal or maybe even faster than normal. So I'm keeping it like this for now. I haven't copied all 7gb of my stuff to it yet so I'll see what happens. |
Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
What is the right allocation size for this card?
EDIT: Here's some good information on xda. Best allocation size is 64k. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...459328&page=25 |
Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
So this is my result using sktools5 Benchmark test. I think I'm going to leave it at 64k.
EDIT: The card slowed down again after copying all my files to it. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...difference.jpg |

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
Just bought a 4gb card sandisk on ebay for $10. I really dont put a lot of music on my phone, so i think 4gb will be more than enough for me...

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
48.99 seemed pricey just looking at the title, i myself got an 8gb a while back when the HTC Raphael was the hottest thing on the block, class 6 from Transcend.
8GB Transcent Class 6 $17.36 ( does not allow flashing from Bootloader) One drawback, but it is speedy and so far allocated ~5GB to it 1GB SanDisk Stock card that came with HTC Raphael (Touch Pro2) did not come with one out the box. Works perfectly and stable, allows flashing from bootloader etc etc. Moral of the story. Buy SanDisk.. a fast one and be happy from the get go. :) |
Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I have a friend a few miles away that sells 16gig cards for $20; I got one last month and am very satisfied.

Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I think just like anything else we are always being taxed by the what is the best at the moment kind of thing.
I mean if today they can get $48.00 for a 16meg class 6 card thats what they will price them at. Even if it only costs 2 dollars to make. In two years from now when they have 200 and 400 gig cards this thing will be like five bucks. |

I went through three of their 16 gig cards (their 8 gig cards worked fine for me). They kept corrupting & then burning up completely. They where all replaced under warranty, but it was still a major PITA. Many other posters here had the exact same problem with Sandisk. I thought it was a problem with my phone at one point, but then one of the cards burned up in a different phone so I guess not. I did back my stuff up religiously to my LT (I have over 12 gigs on my current card) but that is not real convenient & so it is never 100% current. I have now used an R-Data class 6/16 gig card for a while in both my TP2 & my Kodak Zx1 video camera with no problems whatever. ~John |
Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
From what research I did I found going bad reports or not up to class speed reports for every brand, size and class of card I looked at.
Even every IT guy I spoke too said they have found the same. Its actually kinda funny when you speak to the same people who probably make half there living off of setting up servers for backups and operating those systems and ask them about backups on all their executives devices, they all are like, oh thats on the card. But didn't you just tell me that those cards often go bad? Um yeah but well aaa... At any rate I think that if you are shopping for a card, get what every you feel is right for your needs but to be honest if you are looking for that one brand that alway meets its class or size spec or never has issues, I don't think there is one, so reverting to my point, get what ever brand you like and what ever specs you feel you need or can afford. But what ever you get just back it up as that is really the only true insurance you have. |
Re: Ridata 16gb class6 card $48.99 Newegg
I bought this card and I am very happy with it. It has good write speed compared to my old card.

Sooner or later, the thing will probably go bad. Being solid state, you would think they would be 100 times more reliable than a spinning platter hard drive but that doesn't really seem to be the case at all...... I have over 12 gigs of stuff on my 16 gig card right now. Some of it is movies ripped from DVDs. If I lost them, it is no big deal as I can always rent them & rip them over again (plus the original rip is still in my LT). The other stuff is a different story however. I have 5-6 current SPB full system Backup files & TONS & TONS of cab files & MP3's. Losing all that stuff would really suck......... ~John |

Just cause it's a sandisk doesn't mean it's 100% trouble free. I think I just got a bad card. |
