Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?

Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
only took me a week to dump my hero, just not me. didnt hate it though, just not a fan.

Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
Nah, I'm with you man. But it's just another one of those movements with that belief "It's just not complicated, so it's great".
I don't understand that. I'm smart enough to figure it out, so why would I want simple? I have 33 icons on my Firefox UI; I like complicated. |
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
I dont really like either one of them honestly
|
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
It's more about stability. WM is notorious for needing to be soft reset frequently. The take on Android so far is that it is far more stable.

Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
after trying webos, android. and wm ( for 5 years ) and blackberrys... I can honestly say.. webos is the best for all around everything... but the pre is lacking in build quality.. I got tired of wm.. even though the tp2 is amazing device... bb good for everything but web browsing and multi-media stuff.. ( just my opinion )
So currently using the hero. ( build quality +A ) my first android device.. so far I like it....kinda reminds me of using the vogue. or diamond..guess its just a htc thing.. Anyway im really enjoying android so far.. does what i need it to anyway.. but I still have a place for wm.. just really tired of having to spend countless hours to get it where i want it.. |

Not for all of us.

See what I mean? With anything Microsoft, there's thousands of files working together to give you what you want, and each of those files is customizable. When you have 10 files working together like with Apple products or Android, you don't get the same customizability. Of course you get more problems with more files, but if you know what you're doing and you're not a KLUTZ, then you'll be fine.

android is a mishmash that google needs to get on one "version" path asap. what started with great promise (competition to MS & apple and converging different phone OS's) has failed in many areas thus far. This is especially troubling given it's limited device/carrier support in a new ecosystem. It seems that HTC, Motorola (later Samsung), etc. will load "their software" on Android making it a mess, much like WM to customers. Most of WM's bad press is from annoyed/disgruntled bloggers who realize microsoft is screwing up with it's delay and non-action (ie. even making wm6.5 more useful with simple features, easily programmed). WM is in a holding pattern with wm6.5, no doubt because MS wants wm7 on BETTER PHONES with a higher minimal HARDWARE set (probably to play games and integrate with xbox live and microtransactions in market). microsoft seems to have learned from the "vista ready" (512mb celeron 1.5ghz notebooks & pcs LOL) debacle. WM7's timing is locked on to when these chipsets/screens will be ready to market. I'd wager by end of year WM will be the flavor of the month much like Windows7 is (vs Vista, etc.). Now imagine if microsoft had the smarts to lower wm7 license costs gaining $$$ from it's apps market instead of wm licenses. One huge area of interest is that carriers obviously dont won't/like android devices taking away any chance to sell $9.99 turn-by-turn navigation and many other fees away from them. Or google phone app... and whatever is next. |
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
WM for me too.
I get so tired of sales clerks trying to argue me into their personal favorite (first WebOS Palm, now Android Hero). And I do mean argue - like they take it personal that I don't want those devices. Like I'm some kid just hopping on the newest fan wagon... They get outright insulting. They say the (insert non WM OS of choice) can do everything WM can do - IT CANNOT! I'm the customer - an educated one at that. Respect my choice! |
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
I enjoy messing around with everything. If it is different, I want to check it out. I run Linux/Mac/Win at home and have been supporting WinMo/Palm/BB for years. I have played with the iphone a little. That little was enough.
Droid looks like fun to play with but I don't know if it will be as customizable as WinMo. Just going to have to keep an eye on it and see. |
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
I love WM! I don't hate Android, but it's just not WM!
|
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
I dont think Android is bad, but I just havent seen it do anything that would make me dump WinMo....I didnt get in with WinMo till 5 on an old Palm, but it has held me until now....

Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
This is what I love about At&t. Once they actually release an Android phone, I can just stick my SIM card in it and go. I never really used a Blackberry and have only messed with a Pre in the Sprint store.
I have a Touch Pro and a Nokia E71x right now that I switch between. I wanted something different, which is why I got the Nokia. I love the form factor and its not a brick compared to the Touch Pro. I want an Android phone, just because I love to mess around with things. I've loaded it on my Touch Pro (keep WM, just loading it from the SD card) to play with and I like it. It doesn't seem very different than WM though. There's a few feature I like over WM, but hopefully WM7 will bring some of those over. Microsoft needs to start getting with app and game developers ASAP. Those people that have released iPhone apps seem to be releasing Android apps too, leaving WM in the dust. I don't think games are good on Android yet, but I'm sure that'll change. For being so young, Android seems to have a more polished interface than WM IMO. With all that being said, I want an Android phone just so I can add it to my collection and swap between them to keep me from getting bored. Its either flashing a new WM ROM every week or sticking my SIM card in another phone and using it for a couple of weeks and going back and forth. |

Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
me personally am enjoying my hero atm.. ( and have my pre as a backup ) while i still love wm.. im just taking a much needed break..android has a lot going for it.. but so does webos. and wm well even its current form.6.5/6.1 is still king in my book.. wm 7 who knows..but i hope they dont stray to far of the path from 6.5 etc..maybe just tighten up things new ui.. etc..

Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
I am not overly excited about Android. I'm really excited about WM7.
|
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
Im excited about Android mainly because I have not had a chance to mess with it yet.
|
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
I like my TP2.....I looked at a droid but it didn't impress me any.
|
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
didnt impress me either.. and if it did i still wouldnt get it.. (verizon) Too much extra money a month.lol
but the hero is great.. and am enjoying it atm... besides its not the hardware that make the phone.. its the software.. and android is working for me atm.. nice solid os.. not as nice as webos..( that needs better hardware ) but with updates it should give everyone a run for the money.. |
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
im not saying android sucks or anything, its a great os but i feel like WM keeps the smartphone concept, like WM it the closest feeling to a pocket size PC(Which is what i always wanted as a cellphone) and i do agree that thanks to android and apple wm7 is a step closer to being reality.

*Some MP3 player functions I require: (1) True gapless playback, i.e. no dead air (2) UI with large song art AND playlist on same screen (3) Player functions can map to hardware buttons such that while driving, it's possible to make adjustments by feel, without taking eyes off road. (4) Left (of 5-way nav pad) press starts song over, another press starts previous track, AND press & hold rewinds 5 seconds so I can re-hear lyrics I didn't catch on 1st listen. (5) Ability to search 15 gigs of songs and play a request or spur of the moment tune, leaving current playlist spot, to be returned to, after request plays - without messing up previous regular playlist rotation. Again, I could go on and on, just with the MP3 player functions I want. WinMo gives me these NOW. Android bearly has any players at all other than basic functions with wow factor looks. I don't need fancy style, I need a work horse. That's WinMo on my Vogue, at least for now and the foreseeable future. |
Re: Am I the Only Person Thats Not Crazy about Andriod OS?
man im gonna have to guy buy a used vogue on craiglist.. just for a backup.. i miss that phone...
the hero design reminds me alot of the vogue..think bout if the hero could run wm.. it would be a match made in heaven.. well for me anyway..lol |
