So an airwave isn't gps it is a low power cell tower. So a gps antenna wouldn't work. Are you confusing what has actually broken? It is an external gps or an airwave?

The Airave has GPS and a GPS antenna you need to plugin to make sure you are using the Airave in a proper area. Sprint doesn't want you using it overseas, and what not. So kaos is not confused, he just need to get a new antenna. :)

kaos, not sure you saw my answer on Palringo? Call Samsung CS at 1-888-987-4357, hopefully they can get you a replacement antenna. :)

right on point my friend. its sprints way of locking the device to u.s only. It needs to have a gps lock to activate. Not once. every time you reset your network.I ordered a close looker of ebay. i hope it works. If not i may be screwed.

About any gps antenna should work if it has the same plug. GPS is fixed to the same frequency so all antennas are the same. The only difference might be if the antenna is powered and a receiver is placed by the antenna before it goes to the cord.

ya one i ordered plug looked similar. just hope it shows up soon. the airave has a internal gps . the antenna was just a add on for faster lock. In my case only way it really locked well, living in a large structure.

Re: Sprint Airave external Antenna

The GPS antenna doesn't necessarily need to stay plugged into the airave for the airave to work. I plugged mine in to set my airave up but once it was set up, I was able to disconnect the antenna. In fact, it is only for use if you can't get a gps positioning signal inside your house.

So, if possible, moving the airave close to a window or another location may help your situation.

The GPS feture is there for a few reasons
1. so you dont set up in EU..
2. so it can do a Soft Handoff to the other Cell cites based on its Known current exact location and the other sites..
Moveing the airwave after setting it up can mess up calls resulting in dropped calls> now that is the extreme (if you set up upstairs one end of house and moved to basment or vice versa the known points are messed up and could hand off before other is ready> Per if ur reception allready isnt greatest. If you have good recep without AW you prob wont notice drops etc.
cdma is not like gsm its is a soft switch..
Think of it this way.
the AW locks gps so it knows its exact loc vs other cell sites and they know its exact loc..
if you move it after setting up it doesn't know and can hand off prematurely or try to take early..
its hard to explain but very simple. (ever notice even from back in the day.. the phones (AGps) was pretty spot n.. (even phones that didnt have socalled gps feture thats how sprint hands off Very exact known location of cell sites in relation to phone vice versa.)
(AGPS is actully Signal Triangulation based off exact known cell site locations and the resulting data extracted from the triangulation real simple real accurate.)
on any of my phones pda or not wm6 or android if i move around in my house it tracks my exact location within feet if not inches.. (its scary accurate.,)
