check out this twitter tweet from MuscleNerd from iPhone Dev Team. This is awesome!

This means if you get any iphone on any os with any baseband you will be able to unlock and use on any carrier!

so long ATT's insane rates and data caps, I'll be using my rig on T-Mobile with unlimited data/text/500 mins for $60 a month!

Out of curiosity, how are the developers sure that what ever unlock they have will work on the newest iPhone? Using the beta?

It wont work on Sprint unless they release a CDMA version. I'm thinking that a CDMA version may be announced shortly after the GSM release. Perhaps this is why AT&T is allowing customers to upgrade 6 months in advance; rope in as many contract renewals as possible right before Apple announces the CDMA version.

I just see the words, "any carrier" and I wonder. I am debating between jumping to ATT, waiting for Sprint(fingers crossed) or this "3.1.3 unlock

If I were to get another iPhone, the last thing I would do would be to switch to AT&T for it. Their coverage is just to unreliable. The 3G speeds are impressive where available, but the amount of dropped calls, delayed text, and spotty internet isn't worth it to me. If this 4.0 unlock really does work (I'm a little skeptical), then I would get it on T Mobile, which, from my experience has overall more reliable coverage.

yeah the very first os4 beta was on the new 5.13 baseband, so they've had some time to try to unlock it, especially since they never released the unlock for 5.12.01, 5.13 could have the same exploits.

@Orangekid- I will be purchasing two iphones from att or from apple. I will be asking lots of questions because I will be new. I saw your thread about everything iphone but i was confused. Any advice on purchasing without a contract from att or getting discounts with them. I will be loading 5 phones( 2 iphones) with them

The iPhone 4 is going for $200 for the 16gb or the $300 for the 32gb,

IMO you don't need a 32gb, (even though I have over 30 gigs of music ripped on my hard drive, I don't need that much music all at once, I just reload).

Retail from the apple/att store you're talking $600 for the 16gb and $700 for the 32gb, so I don't know how rich you are, but I'd try to find it on craigslist or something for around $400-$500 for a retail iPhone 4.

Also they if you buy it retail from apple/att, they ensure you have att service when you buy it. So if you want to use a different GSM carrier, you will have to buy it 3rd party anyways.

the site looks like they are selling carriier unlocks, which is complete BS, you will NEVER have to pay for a carrier unlock, the devs always release them for free.

I am not sure if you want to stick on ATT or not.

If you want to use a different carrier then do not buy from ATT or Apple, because they will make you sign a 2 year.

All iPhones come locked to ATT, but the carrier unlocks should be released this month free. i will update my jailbreak/unlock thread as soon as they are released.

if you want to use a different carrier, buy it from ebay, craigslist, or a friend (after the 24th) and then you can jailbreak and unlock it for tmobile or whomever you want.

I tried to do a search for Vodafone in the us but didnt see them.

The only benefit for Att is the price of the phone but u r saying it can still be unlocked and jailbroken but unlocking would be meaningless due to the 2 year contract, right?

Tmobile is the only other GSM US carrier besides ATT. so if you are going to unlock it you have to find it from a friend/ebay/craigslist.

@Orangekid - OKay, I went to T-Mobile to find a no contract plan. Here is what i found out

2 lines - 1500 minutes with talk, text and web for 119.99 month plus add a line at $5.00 each with three lines = $135.00 month. He said the other 3 lines would share in the text, web, and talk. Doe this seem right to you and are you aware of any corp. discounts that they offer?

This is a way better plan than att or sprint

I have never done a corp account with anyone, nor had more than 1 line on any carrier at a time.

Currently I have the $60 a month unlimted web, text, and mobiel to mobiel iwth 500 anytime mins, which is better than any other carrier. And the tmobile coverge in my city is awesome.

Sorry i can't be more help as far as multiple lines and corp discounts go, but I would ask the same question of like 4 reps to ensure you get the best answers, often different reps say different things on ANY carrier.

Gotcha. Don't you think the folks at Apple pay attention to the web and might realize that an unlock has been developed though not released? And, if that was the case might they try to patch things up in iOS4?

it hasnt been released so they have no idea what to patch

edit:

since the 5.12.01 unlock was never released, I wouldn't be surprised if the exact same baseband exploit is in the iOS 4 baseband as well, which is why they never released the 5.12.01 unlock even though they probably had it months ago.

The T-Mobile rep stated that he thought iphones don't do well with web om tmobile. Is that your experience?

no I have never had a problem with data on tmobile. The only issue is that you don't get 3G, only Edge and Wifi, but Edge does what I need it to on the iPhone, most apps are small and download fast, internet is still fast.

He probably said that so you'd be a tmobile phone :S

This is a no contract plan. They also told me if i come in next Saturday we could get any phone in the store for free. 5 free! I figure ill get a couple HD2's and sell them after i get my unlocked 4's to help pay for the cost

yeah,

you jailbreak it in like 30 seconds using blackra1n or spirit, then you unlock it in like 20 seconds using blacksn0w. Keep in mind these unlocks are not yet released.

Promised, but not released. I would not buy an iPhone 4 until the unlocks are released just to make sure.

But unlocks in the past have been just quick unlock and pop in your sim.
