Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
I'm on Sprint, and currently have the TP2.
I have an upgrade, and am tired of all the problems I have with my TP2 and Windows. I'm looking to Android as my (potential) savior. Does Sprint have something coming down the pipes in the next 1-2 months that's worth waiting for? Or should I explore the EVO/Epic more throughly? |

Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
I am in the same boat.
I want to get the evo, I am a sprint premier customer (like everyone else), and well, I was wondering if Best Buy will price match wirefly, or radio shack online ads. I saw the evo on wirefly for an upgrade price of 119. And even at radio shack its 149. I want the evo over anything else. Suggestions, curious? Ryan |

I don't know about Best Buy price matching so I am no help there. I would just call and ask or just buy it from Radio Shack. I ditched the TP2 for the Evo and never looked back. It just works, exactly as it should, straight out of the box. I've heard good things about the Epic but I try to steer clear of samsung phones from my previous experience. |
Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
I want the evo, but cannot afford it.
I saw the optimus and read alot of stuff on it, reviews etc..on sprintusers. Best Buy will give me the optimus for free. With the evo though, can you sync up your work emails/calendar ...right now I use microsoft exchange. I also was curious if you get an optimus if u have access to all the cool apps and app store that is the same with the evo. I want to pull the trigger today. BOOM...I am excited. Ryan |
Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
Looking to replace my TP2 as well, but I'm month to month on SERO and wondering if it's worth upgrading my contract and paying $20 extra a month.

I use my EVO to sync with my company's Exchange server, as well as Gmail and two personal email accounts (my own mail server). I got my wife the Epic and I have the EVO. I love the EVO and haven't seen another phone come out on Sprint yet that I would dump my EVO for. Quote:

Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
Thanks
Right now, I think the optimus will be faster and more effective than the tp2, I am frustrated with the tp2 and windows mobile that the apps are so lacking :( I will go to best buy today and get the optimus, and then do the whole ebay thing if I want the evo...or something better. Ryan |
Some managers at best buy will price match radio shack and walmart. I would check your local best buy store. Best way to do it is say you want the evo or epic and go through all the steps if getting it, then when its time to pay for it make them price match. If they say no then walk away and they may back down and give you price you want. I've done this before and usually the manager can ovveride any price to make the sale. If not then just order it online. Right now I think if you go through facebook you can get it for $68 new account or 119.99 for renewal. Or get it on newegg. I think they have a low price also. Just shop around. But try best buy first.

Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
I would love the evo, tried at 2 best buys and would not get them to budge on teh 199 price.
I think I am gonn a suck it up and get the optimus for free, and then trick it out for a while, like I did with my tp2.... I will get a new phone soon, prob get the evo once the dust has settled. Ryan |

My daughter has the LG Optimus S from Sprint. Personally I am not impressed. I have the HTC Desire from USCC, with it's 1ghz CPU and it is definatly faster than the 620mhz in the Optimus. Plus also the optimus doesn't have the Adobe Flash 10.1 on it either, and it isn't in the market for it. I know there is a way to install it, but it is a pain to do, I've tried several times but always fail. I would recomend you keep the TP2, I think with the tweeks I did on mine, it was probably faster than the Optimus. I love the Desire, but even with it being rooted and having a custom 2.2 rom on it, it no way can have anywhere near as many apps on it as my TP2 with the same 16gb SD card. At least don't go into a contract till you can afford a faster phone with more storage. |
Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
Day 2 with an Optimus and everythings great... it has the same GPU as the EVO, just a slower processor(600).... havent had one thing lag on it yet.. camera has no flash though.. and obviously the forward facing camera is on the Optimus T(TMO) and not the Optimus S(Sprint)...
But ANgry Birds runs fantastic.. Youtube looks beautiful(load times depend on your converage obviously)...Onscreen keyboard is nice and responsive... Live Wallpapers work extremly well also.... all-in-all, it will give you the FULL Android experience, without breaking your wallet right before christmas |
Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?

to put into perspective: Recently, many phones that feature MSM7x27 or MSM7x25 processors have been released to the market. They are often marketed as low-end, featuring "only" 600MHz (for MSM7x27) or 528MHz (MSM7x25). Sounds pretty pathetic, right? Not really. If you only look at their clock speeds, 600/528MHz doesn't sound impressive. In fact, thats hardly an improvement over notoriously slow MSM7200 series processors used by HTC G1, Magic and Hero. But there are some key differences: Unlike MSM7200 series processors, MSM7x27/MSM7x25 are built for smartphones. The processor unit contains a floating point unit, a 400MHz modem processor, a 320MHz application DSP, and a real dedicated GPU to perform 3D accelerations and video encoding/decoding. Does it sound just like Qualcomm's high end Snapdragon processors? You bet. Lets look at some benchmark numbers for the phones that feature MSM7227: ..........
(Source: http://smartphonebenchmarks.com ) And the following are the phones that use the outdated MSM7200 series processors:
(Source: http://smartphonebenchmarks.com ) As you can see, MSM7227 series phones are significantly faster! Why is that? Lets look at what Quadrant benchmark measures:
Quadrant benchmark application measures the overall performance of your phone. Given that the CPU component hardly received any improvement over MSM7200 series, it is natural to conclude that other areas received significant improvements. One area in particular, is the GPU. MSM7227 features a dedicated GPU called, Adreno 200. This is the SAME GPU that is found in the first generation Snapdragon processors! Now lets look at the high-performing first generation Snapdragon based phones:
As you can see, although they are faster than MSM7227 phones, not that much faster! And then there's the screen resolution. Typical Snapdragon phones use 800x480 screen resolution, while most of the MSM7227 phones use 320x480. That's less than half the amount of pixels MSM7227 has to process through. The result? Surprisingly snappy performance out of "lowly" 528MHz/600MHz processor! There are still some open questions. Snapdragon processors received huge boost in speed when they switched to Android 2.2 (i.e. JIT). Will MSM7227 be able to perform with similar margin of improvements despite featuring somewhat slow (i.e. same as MSM7200 series) CPU core? We will find out soon when we start to receive results for MSM7227 phones with Froyo. Some current/future phones to use MSM7227 include the following: Quote:
I dont know why you are comparing apps, it's a widely accepted fact that the android market is bigger than the wm platform. I think today is the last day to order the optimus s from sprint for free. One huge advantage it has over the premium phones is the battery life. I can get nearly two full days on my setup, but I have a very tricked out setup which automates a lot of processes, like automatically jump on know wifi networks when possible based on gps location. Evo's/epics have notoriously bad battery life, but I guess the screen makes up for that inconvenience. I've had my LG for less than a week, and I love this phone. it's easily the best phone I've ever owned. it does have a few concerning flaws though, no led notifications, no led flash, and photos in 4:3 aspect ratio (though they are decent in quality). Cant select all emails/mark as read. |
Re: Sprint - TP2 -> ? Now or later?
