Tablets/Netbooks Andriod or other. Need Input
Has anyone gotten any of these devices? I am looking for something for myself and possibly the kids (15 and 10). I would like them to run off the home WIFI and also be able to print from. Small and inexpensive is my goal here yet something they can still write papers and play games/music on. I just want something smaller than my 15 inch Dell 1525. I like the small size of the netbooks and tablets. I want to be able to roam around the house and still be able to carry this device. The 15 inch is to bulky still. I mostly use the laptop for research because the screen is larger than my Touch Pro 2. I occasionally play music on mine and also like to stream HULU. So any input from people that have used these would be nice. Also any links would be nice as well.
Thanks! |

Personally for myself I just bought a netbook with win xp for 200 bucks...
otherwise what you might be interested is that Google plans to release a Chrome OS Netbook this month. |

I have a 17" laptop, a 10" netbook, 2 Touch Pro 2 (given to the kids) and an Evo. The PDAs can be anything; however, the laptop and netbook and Evo are used extensively for work and for me that means software compatibility and the ability to move information around without having to worry about reformatting.
Goodness, that means Windows on the laptop, the netbook and the PDAs or at least an application on the PDAs similar to Documents to Go. Chrome is not there, as it has compatability issues and Android, well, it far from there. |

I'm on my 2nd netbook.....1st was a Dell Mini 9, ended up giving it to the kid, and getting a Dell Mini 10.....I love it, I use it @ work for personal use, and do all my ROM cooking from it.....it's not the greatest for streaming video though
I bought both from Dell Outlet for around $200 each |
Re: Tablets/Netbooks Andriod or other. Need Input
My netbook is a 10" Asus running Winstud Starter with a claimed battery life of 11 hours that actually gets 9 hours of hard use. I up'd the memory to 2gb. I normally use the Evo to do most file updates; though there are some spread sheets that require a larger screen to produce the finished product.
After doing an update, I connect the USB cables to the Evo and Asus, copy the necessary files to the Asus, make final changes there, then copy them back to the Evo. If I need to do email, I use Wireless Tether. It works well for me. The netbook is not fast, but the larger screen works well. I looked at an iPad, liked what I saw and quickly noted it has compatibility issues with the software I am running. I have no interest in adding anything else to my routine. As for tablets other than the iPad, my playing has me convinced that the low end devices do not work as well as the iPad and if I am going to get a "knock-off," it has to come close to the iPad and the Walgreens thing just is not there. Also, the iPad costs too much for my needs. The Asus meets those needs within the price range I am willing to spend. |

My Netbook is great... I have a Gateway and I paid 325.00 for it. It has windows 7 the stripped down version. So the 1 gig of ram is fine.
The best part is the battery life... Iget approx 11 hours while on the web. I keep the screen a little dim but not dark. I really love it. We even take it in the car and stream youtube or hulu cartoons for the kids using my TP2 as a wifi hub. Also I use it for school and for research. p. |
Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))
I am still looking for a good deal. Right now I am trying to find two for the kids. Christmas on a budget is tough. I have seen some good deals on Ebay but hesitant to buy just yet. I know they mostly play online games and write papers. I don't think they really need a CD/DVD but could be handy I guess. Is Win XP still used all that much? I have seen a lot of laptops with that OS. |
Re: Tablets/Netbooks Andriod or other. Need Input
It is still available; but more often it is not recommended as the desired OS. I looked at both and opted to go with Win 7 Stammer edition, as it does things a bit better/easier than WXP. It really is better to stay with the latest/greatest and all that stammer stuff.
