Re: Why do random apps start running???
It doesnt affect the battery thats the way android is designed to run. I've run my phone for a whole day with atk on aggressive killing most apps and a day with it off and there was basically no difference. I still get about 16 hours of life.

Re: Why do random apps start running???
i wish i could get 16 hours, i have a hard time getting 12 = \

Re: Why do random apps start running???
The more data intensive apps that you browse all day (showing off Flixster, Google Earth, Layar, Goggles, etc) is why I'm only getting 10-12 hours per day before I'm down to 5%.
The thinnest is hard to get used to due to the width of the handset. Instead of getting some gel cover to fill the palm of my hand better I think I'll just wait for Seidio to offer an larger battery and door (but it better still have a kickstand and maybe sliding camera lens protector). Then I'll get way over a days worth of hard use. But then I'll be sad if the HTC dock's (desktop and car) won't fit. Priorities I guess. |

Re: Why do random apps start running???
My understanding is that Android 2.1 saves the state of an app , and can resume it from where you left off, without dwelling in RAM. So, just because something is "running" according to a task manager, it dosent necessarily mean it's using any memory or cpu power. The Evo is a powerhouse anyway; why are u worried about these things? Go on and enjoy your nice new phone! :D

Re: Why do random apps start running???
I too was seeing tons of apps running when I was using ATK. I guess I'm just used to the Windows Mobile days where things started getting sluggish when tons of programs were open at once. I havn't noticed a drop in performance so I guess i will just ignore it.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...+killer&page=2 In it, someone linked this article: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-b...-with-android/ I've used a task killer since day one but after reading a few articles, I've stopped to see if I get better performance. After 2 days of not using a task killer, I see marginally better performance and no difference in battery life... |

For example. True scenario. I killed all currently running applications with ATK. I press the power button turning off my screen and put my EVO in my pocket.10 minutes later I pull it out and hit the power button. I open gmail and see that I have1 email, I read it, back out of everything back to my home screen. I then open ATK and see that I now have 7 apps running! At least 2-3 of them I never use at all. Any explanations? |

Re: Why do random apps start running???
This is after a 44 minute conference call for work... 37 text messages...email sync every 5 minutes on gmail & corporate mail (I only do this during work hours), listening to TI's whole im serious CD and 8ball & MJG's whole coming out hard cd, surfing the web randomly for about 40 minutes, fring logged in to yahoo, twitter, skype and probably about 10-15 messages on yahoo while sitting at my desk today... this is also WITHOUT ATK running. I'd say this is pretty damn good.

Before: ATK running, Auto sync off.6.5 hours running before I dropped to 30% battery and started charging. In services it said Available 121 mb + 0.00b in 4 After: uninstalled ATK, AUTO SYNC on power off and back on (soft reset) went in to services and stopped gtalk, Sprint zone update, media playback and now show 174mb+119mb in 33 other 55mb in 4 available. I will report back when I have full charge the length of charge I get. I think by the available mb's it should be better. I use the phone and features pretty heavy. |
Re: Why do random apps start running???
Over the past 3 days, i didn't use task killer to kill everything like I usually did. I did close apps like shazam, radio, etc after I got done using them though.
Phone was really laggy. Took longer to open up handcent and email, almost twice as long sometimes. Like someone said in another thread, if you know how to use your task killer, it can be benificial. Just within the last 20 minutes where I finally killed everything off, my phone has been running a lot better/smoother. It does annoy me that random apps just start up on their own but oh well. I don't think it really effects the battery life all that much anyways. |

I don't have very many apps installed as it is. I stayed logged in to messenger using the default messaging program that came with the phone. I also removed a lot of bloatware like NFL, Nascar, NFL, etc. Whenever I looked at the task killer, the main programs that were always there was voice search and some other apps that came with the phone. Not 3rd party. |

12 hours and 14 minutes since I unplugged this morning before the phone shutdown and I plugged it back in. No sluggishness or delays. Not bad but I would love to get a full day until bedtime out of it. Im going to take a look at the thread about over-clocking at the evo forum next. They seem to be getting crazy battery life by under-clocking the CPU during times when not using it. |
