Ofcourse it's people that are the problem...Google is run by *GASP* HUMAN BEINGS. What do you know...do you think I'm talking about how a bunch of computers with minds of their own are the problem...we're not there yet. And they're not RECOGNIZING trends my friend they are MANUFACTURING the latest trend based on what is most profitable. All i'm saying is that GREEDY marketers coupled with complacent consumers makes the entire country dumber. And people are fooled into thinking Google fosters independance...when in fact they promote complacency in the consumer. |

Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
What I'm getting from this thread is that Google is doing what any other company that wants to sell a product does, do you think Nike for example looks at trends of footwear and then makes a shoe that emulates what the market is trending to or do you think that Nike makes a shoe and makes it a trend setter?
If you're following trends and not setting or manufacturing them then you are behind other companies that are in the same industry as you. Nobody can sit back and let trends determine what they make, they have to make the trends. Let's take Apple for example (as much as I'd like to stay away from them, they're a prefect example though) Do you think Steve saw a trend in touch interface phones and decided to make a touch interface phone or do you think he created the touch interface phone and built a market for that phone? Something ridiculous like "you don't even know you need this phone yet"... Google, like any other advertising firm, looks at statistics and tries to guess whats-to-come, they just seem to gather more accurate data and come up with better results. Ask any professional in marketing and I bet they envy Googles foresight. This is all just a matter of how I see it |
Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
So...google is so powerful it made me fat and stupid...HAHAHAHA! That is hilarious! Contact a specialist for a serious psych eval. If you think it is as easy as blaming google for your problems or anyone elses there is something wrong with you. We all make our own decisions and suffer the consequences. Google can tell me to eat bad but I dont have to listen...could also tell me to exercise but that doesnt mean I will. And tell me how google reverses 16 years worth of education? Doesnt google provide a google of information so that we can learn even more? OMG! Crazy people crack me up!

Someone needs to relax. I seem to recall someone saying that comments were welcome in this thread and do not recall there being a stipulation on the comments coming from marketing savvy indivuals.
The picture I put up was because I thought it was funny and knew that others would too. That does not put us in the class of walking out in traffic and getting hit because of an ipod. It really is simple, if you don't really want people's comments, don't ask for them. Google FTW! |
Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
Lol no I was being sarcastic bcuz I love google...so according to dude's statements I should be fat and stupid. :) If his statements were true! Too bad I am smart and gorgeous and prove his argument invalid! ;)

Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
I will say it is pretty damn CREEPY when I go to the google search page and type one word of a statement and it seems that google knows exactly what im about to look for lol

The ones to blame are the people...they bring this upon themselves..the only thing that standing out in 2000+ is the alarming debt rate but thats not Google's fault. |
Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
this thread is funny. OP google does collect alot of info but like most have said they use it to their benefit to make their phones and services better so people will purchase their products. Is that a bad thing when in actuality its making the customers experience easier and faster? Like some said when you type a google search before you finish the 1st word google already has suggestions, its because they know what people are googling. these examples go on and on, yes you do give up information but in turn you get a way better experience, so to each his own. I definitely understand you point to the fullest but the information google takes and what they do with it "currently" is not something i'm worried about.

Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
Here's my point. Google is gathering information about users of it's phones, email services, search services, and more (if not all) of their products and services. Sure, that can be a scary thing to some people and I completely understand that. But if you are not going to use Google because they know too much about you, then who are you going to use? Because we all know that Microsoft also keeps track of what people are doing and I hope that you are not naive enough to believe that they don't.
Look at the example below, where they have emulated the same Google experience on their own search engine. And Microsoft has been in the PPC game a lot longer, so I have to believe they are doing the same thing there as well. Think about it... http://rainfreak.com/images/other/bing.jpg |

I just caught up with all the posts and it seems like some people smoked some good stuff and thought of some crazy things to add. In a way those crazy marketing posts make sense. You don't think about what you are doing but you shop at walmart because you know they roll back prices. You get a coffee from starbucks because you see everyone else walking around with a cup and you seen them everywhere so they must be good. |

Well there aren't any walmarts here...I think they built one somewhere in ny state recently(maybe long island) or something but I don't think there is any in the city... as for starbucks, I only visit it if I am with other people and need to sit down and use the laptop..maybe get a strawberry drink (I don't drink coffee either..makes me sleepy) But the above is rare cause I usually just work in office or from hotel room. (I spend A LOT of time working, way over 12 hours a day lol) Personally I prefer to try different stuff rather then same things...I usually visit places when on my business trips and I wouldn't go to a starbucks since I have one here..not that I really visit it lol |
Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
damn never been to walmart huh?! that place is fun to go to if for nothing else than to see how ridiculous people dress lol. peopleofwalmart.com hours of laughter, boy this post is going offtopic quick lol

Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
I'm sorry guys but things like this have been happening a very long time. None of this is intended to offend anyone. 80% of people don't actually know how to drive a car. They aim it and push the accellerator. These people wouldn't have a clue how to drive a car with a standard transmission, and a manual choke. Let's go back even further. Almost all of us don't know how to churn our butter from milk freshly milked from a cow. Most of us don't even know how or when to milk a cow at all. Let's go back even further than that. Few of us here know how to harvest wheat and process it to make flour or any other wheat realated product, such as bread. Now let's go back to the begining of humanity. Very few of us at all can make fire out of flint or sticks and hunt our own meat down with nothing more than a sharpend stick. We don't know how to process the skin from our hunted animal to make clothing. If the governments of the world really wanted to, we would all but starve to death just by shutting down the farms and factories. Most of us here would be pretty helpless should the farming industry and factories of our countries be shut down. I'll probably never buy an Android phone because I probably couldn't afford one but Google is just doing what has been done through out history starting with our hunter, gatherer ancestors. They make things easier for the masses to the point that we forget how to do it ourselves and they continue to market to us. I, myself, don't have a clue how to make butter, milk a cow, hunt my own meat with a spear, make clothing from hide or make fire with flint and sticks. I am, however, in the 20% that does own a car with a manual transmission and choke.
I couldn't afford an automatic everything car so I was forced to learn the primative car driving method at a young age. This is just a continuation of what has been going on sense the beginning of time. |

In the end it'll be a Facebook/myspace offbreed(or merger), Wal-Mart, and Google.
Deal with it, or do something about it. |

The funny thing is I bet if you gave a caveman the option of going out and hunting for food, killing it, dragging it back to the house, defurring it, gutting it, cleaning it, draining the meat, adding nitrogen to it to make it appear red, cooking it and then eating it or they could just go to McDonloads and pick up a burger, they'd pick up the burger!! HA HA It's all the hard work and effort that previous generations had to do that made us do what we do now, more simplified things. That is why this process is called advancement. Now we could be so advanced that we become lazier... I bet people of the day wish they had more time to relax and I mean from working not from running around and keeping themselves busy with social events The internet, when used for information, is very very powerful. Unfortunately it's not always used as a way to gather information, rather it's used for porn... I remember reading a statistic a few years ago (and you can take it however you want) that 80% of adults that use the internet used it for porn only... pretty sad... ONLY being the operative word |
Re: Why I might never buy an Android phone...(short and sweet, comments welcome)
Wow I can't believe this thread is still going lol...what did I start here?
Anyway you guys have made some awesome points that pretty much changed my mind about trusting the behavior of CERTAIN conglomerates. I might not trust some conglom's because of ridiculous profiteering. But if there's one thing Google doesn't do is profit monger, because they don't have to, they make ass loads of money from doing nothing so they can give us the products we want. As far as the location and privacy issues are concerned...I've been under a lot of stress lately (6 full time classes, lots of family drama, plus I still work 30 - 40 hours a week to pay for school / life, so I really am sorry if I seemed overly cynical). And I do owe some people an apology for getting in their face a bit...namely Sprintgirl lol. Your points were well taken and I'm willing to admit you were indeed right. Now as far as this goes....this is probably the funniest god-d*mn thing I've read all week... Quote:
