I see. Well, at least it's close enough. I won't have to go looking through my directory, hit "p-slim text message" and then hit the mic. Just means I have to get used to exactly where the virtual button is, so that I can hit that without having to look down on the phone.

I know a bunch of people that have already gotten a ticket for using a handset while driving and it's not worth the $150+ fine (in Cali)...LOL.

It's also not worth losing your life over, and unfortunately more and more people are getting hurt or killed because of using cell phones while driving.

No doubt. I actually had a bluetooth headset before it was requirement in California, so I never really had any problems talking on the phone, but whenever I wanted to get a quick message to someone I knew couldn't talk on the phone, it was impossible to do that until I was stopped and parked.

Early on (before it was illegal), I actually perfected being able to text with one hand using a numeric keyboard, but with majority of touch screen phones being the best of the bunch nowadays, it's really difficult to accomplish that.

Voice-to-text will really help keep things safe and serve a great purpose for my needs.

We need this law in AZ. People out here drive crazy enough but add a cell phone to the equation.

Pretty decent sized fine (I think my cousin had to pay $140, but can't remember), so it's not something I mess around with.

I've heard that slowly, but surely, more states will be adopting California's rule about it. From what I remember reading, NY already did (could be wrong on this one though).

Yeah, California has to think of ways to generate money!
All kidding aside, I live in a small enough city were I can wait 5 minutes and get to my destination to read a text or email that comes to my phone. If I feel it's important I'll either pull into a parking lot or read it at a traffic light when the light is RED.
Our school district here has initiated a $15.00 fee for kids who get caught using their cell phone during school hours except during lunch... after the second infraction the parent has to come pick up the cell phone... just another way the school is generating money, supposedly it's going to a general fund and from what I hear the high schools (2 of them with about 4,500 students total) has generated a lot of revenue from these fines

I've read about groups that say texting and driving is worse then drinking and driving... I say doing anything while driving is just as bad as drinking and driving... changing CD's, radio stations, talking to passengers, disiplining your kids in the back seat, eating a hamburger, doing crossword puzzles... yeah you get the idea...

I guess the FCC shouldn't approve a phone unless it has superior bluetooth compatibilities!

sorry for the rant

Wow, that's not as bad as my kid's school district. In high school, if they are caught with a phone on school property, a parent has to come get it. The kid also gets one day in-school suspension for it.

The second offense and the school takes the phone and neither the student or parents are allowed to retrieve it until the end of the school year. The kid also gets three days in-school suspension for it.

Now, all that said, I have had three kids in high school and have never had one reach the second level of phone confiscation. And that is good, because there is no way in hell I would sit back and pay for service for a phone that my kid didn't have, and not raise all kinds of trouble at the school.

LOL, I would probably end up in in-school suspension, too.

lol my oldest girl is in 6th grade.. but she has so many after school things.. she has here phone on her all the time. but during school its in her backpack.. but she needs it for after school. so she can call or text to come pick her up.. etc.. plus that sprint family gps thingy comes in handy..

but as far as android.. I love it.. so easy to use. and customize.. easy to root.. easy to flash roms.. love nandroid backups..

wm while i do miss it.. spent to much time trying to get it the way i wanted.. then would come another rom..that i had to try. etc. it was a never ending process. i know my wife is happy i went to android.. cut my tinker time down by half, lol

The school can't take it away for a year..if you come to pick it up the school must legally give it back to the parent.

There was a time though when the ppc6700 existed, you can just tell the teacher its a PDA for taking notes and they wouldn't know the difference lol..but now that there is an iphone and most phones look like iphones you won't get away with it.

In NY though they didn't allow cellphones at one point, but after sept 11th that rule came under a lot of criticism and fell through and worst case teacher just takes it till end of class.

When i finally kicked the WinMo monkey off my back and gave Android a try, I quickly realized the same thing as you. Android is just better on every level.
