does android have teather?
Gonna be making the switch with the Evo, just needed to know if android has teathering like winmo does? Thanks in advance.

Re: does android have teather?
There are ways to tether for free with Android, if your device is rooted. If not, you can use PDAnet, though it is not free. Also, the EVO will have the ability to use itself as a WiFi hotspot using the Sprint Mobile Hotspot app, and can support up to 8 devices via wireless.

Re: does android have teather?
Hey Rainfreak, I just thought I'd ask you something while at it, so if i buy PDAnet for android, I don't need to root my device, example (hero, moment, ect)? The sounds pretty sweet :) I'm a big fan of PDAnet lol... bought it for WM.

Re: does android have teather?
That is correct, though I am a big fan of money and like to keep it. Well that and I am a true geek and wanted to root as soon as I could simply for the fact that I could.

Re: does android have teather?
+1, especially with phones like the Moment and Hero, Root is a must IMO.

Re: does android have teather?
The downside to PDANet is that you need the client on the computer you're connecting with too, but that is correct that you don't need to be rooted to use it.
For the Evo, I'm guessing since it'll come with the Sprint app that it won't need to be rooted to use that either, although I'm not sure if Sprint plans on charging for that feature or not, I haven't heard. |
Re: does android have teather?
I am betting they will. I could be wrong, but my money would be on them charging for it in some way.

Re: does android have teather?
Wow, this transition is gonna suck. I have no idea what rooting a device means. I'm guessing it's like unlocking or something along those lines. Anyways, thanks for the answers :)

It would be cool if they made it where you could do mifi for like 300mb a month for free or something like that. If they want to charge $40 to tether though like they do now though, I will be rooting asap on the evo. |

"rooting" is giving you root access to the filesystem, just like an administrator in Windows. You can see and change everything. |
