Sprint Touch Pro TP MSL (not for troubleshooting)

EDITED AND REMOVED: I was given bad info and my attempt to help was ill-received; thus pointless.

Re: Sprint Touch Pro TP MSL (not for troubleshooting)

Sprint still has each device with its own MSL, there is no universal MSL. My old TP had a different MSL than yours, completely unmodified at the time.

Re: Sprint Touch Pro TP MSL (not for troubleshooting)

Ron is correct every phone has it's own code. If I remember correctly every phone usually comes with two MSL codes. There is a 1 time use code (usually used at the sprint store when provisioning you phone), and then the standard MSL which I think Sprint generates randomly and can be used more than once.

"Try 713689

If this doesn't work for you and you're SURE you haven't modifed your phone in such a way that it should"

I'll be sure to edit the post to make that a bit more clear.

Still, thanks for the effort.

um, way to be a jerk. they responded the way they did because this thread of yours is useless -- sprint's MSLs are generated from ESNs and MEIDs, and each phone has a different ESN or MEID. thus, they're all different and posting a list of numbers to try is just a waste of everyones time. for a touch pro, a simple registry tweak to turn on logging will give you your MSL. a freeware registry editor like phm's is all you need. none of this guessing, trial and error crap.

and if you really want to save someone time, list links to all those how-to threads that youre talking about.. since they actually might work.

I would be very interested to see this. From personal experience, you probably got a rep who was just tired of talking and wanted to give you a quick explanation. And or... didn't know what they were talking about (yes that does happen) Krielys is correct about the MSLs being generated off of the serial number and from personally activating a ton of those devices i can tell you the MSL and the OTKSL are NEVER (with a few minor exceptions) the same from phone to phone

You should have posted this in the regular HTC Touch Forum, instead of here.

We all know these guys (Tech Support) like to talk out there butt and spew ignorance on a regular basis, but maybe he knew what he was talking about. Guys heard of the provisioning MSL? Not likely because by the time we get the phone it's been used. Open QPST and you'll find that you can assign a 2nd MSL and set the number of times it's valid.

Just a thought.

Okay folks, just to humor the man, I tried it!!! IT DID NOT WORK! This is with a BONE stock Touch Pro. I received it brand new today as an insurance replacement and it is unmodified in ANY way. As many have said, the MSL's are device specific, otherwise they wouldn't serve a point. If there was a universal MSL, there would be no point in having device specific codes at all, as everyone would just use the universal one. As for obtaining your MSL, BafMSL Grabber is definitely the way to go. I have never heard of someone having it not work

I actually did try the code because I figured maybe there was something I did not know or that the information that I had was incorrect. I merely posted something I thought would be informative to others. But sadly the code does not work and the other posters have confirmed what I posted above.

I kinow that when I read Baf's instructions it said to make sure you have .net installed, and if it errors, soft reset and then it is fine

Re: Sprint Touch Pro TP MSL (not for troubleshooting)

you ned 3.5 CF installed and you need to have your phone in flight mode for baf to work

and to the guy that threw out the sprint tech crack

I AM a tech...and a damn good one at that

the idea of a universal msl is totally silly and defeats the purpose of having one...

not all sprint techs are complete idiots, as evidenced of help ive been giving around here lately...

i will say some of the people working at tech support are complete dumb dumbs

I didn't say ALL Sprint Tech's were morons. I have gotten a few decent ones. I just said he got bad info from a sprint tech, big surprise. That merely implies that it is nowhere near uncommon for that to happen. By your comment, you seem to agree.

There is no reason to get defensive, the song wasn't about you!

I'm sure it won't work.

So now that we know everyone here knows how to argue and bicker, here's the general consensus:

It doesn't work
MSL codes are not universal

hmmm, maybe you could get in touch with Baffles. I am sure he would like to troubleshoot it and see if the program can be improved in some way

Parkjam,

Thanks for trying and thanks for "humoring the man", but FYI, the MSL is programmed however the carrier prefers. That goes for the both the "permanent one" and the limited use one so to say that "there would be no point in having device specific codes at all" if the carrier opted to use the same code and make support easier, makes no sense. They might set it up any number of ways, for any number of reasons (many of which most of us likely wouldn't forsee sinse we don't provision thousands of phones per day).

Sarcasm is best served with a side of logic.

BAFs MSL grabber is very nice, and I've had it fail for me. Interestingly enough, I can't recall how I got past that hurdle. There for some time my TP was a nightmare though.
