Simple instructions left out when flashing!!
 

So maybe I am still overwhelmed and excited at the same time from the flashings, ROM's and Radios for my phone......

But I had a very tough time flashing my phone for the first time... Unlocking was fine.. But I don't think I read anywhere in the stickies to download WinRAR before starting the flash process. Maybe I missed it.. But I've checked.

I think its something that would save alot of noobies time and less stress. Most of the new ROMS are setup to run from the desktop to your phone aslong as you have WinRAR installed. It took me a good 30 minutes to have someone suggest to me what I was missing.

Maybe we can see it stickied as well.

that's definitely a good suggestion, because I have had to tell n00b's that dozens of times that were strugling, because they had no clue what a rar file is. You should send a PM to the OP of the how to threads and request it be added.

I thought so..... Dont quite know how to PM the OP incharge of that, but it should be done. I had to tell someone on it aswell. I dont mind. Thats what this is all about anyways but does help out noobs tremendously....

I figured it was pretty self explanatory with the extension RAR. Even Windows will search the file extension for you and tell you how to open a RAR file.

My rule is if you can't figure out how to use RAR files then you really shouldn't be flashing a high dollar phone such as the TouchPro.

if the person wanting to flash does not know what a rar file is, i suggest them to return the phone

Actually I didn't really pay attention to the extentions since I never had to use that program before. I was following the instructions on how to flash as I am sure alot of us do whe we first start for the first time.

But if there are "noobs" as knowledgible as yourself. Then obviously they can figure out to install WinRAR before flashing........

+1 We were all n00bs at some point, but if you take the initiative to hack this phone and flash it, it is expected you do a simple google search on something you do not understand. If you are not willing to do basic research, leave your phone stock.

And I agree with you on that. Obviously we can all google winRAR to install. All I was saying is that in the original post, no one mentions the need for it. I never used it. I'm running vista 64bit, and it just didn't allow me to save the file to my desktop with out it. I've been upgrading blackberries for years before this, never needed winRAR.....

Good point...but they are still gonna litter up the forum asking several times in several different threads why they can't get it to work. Better and more complete instructions will benifit all of us.

As others have said above, if you are not willing to do a basic google search you should not be flashing your phone. I understand some people are new but they should have enough courtesy to others to search before posting, not expecting everything to be spoon fed to them. Threads like this are a waste of time. The flashing thread gives detailed instructions and post 50 in that thread goes into more detail for an individual on Sprint.

im a noob too.. I had a few issues while using the HARD SPL method

RUU .. what does this mean? It doesnt state anywhere in the beginning part of the thread. For someone new this acronym gets tossed around quite a bit.

After running the SPL files the window said.. "this will take about 10 minutes". On my phone it went by in about a minute or 2. I was worried something happened.

The hard SPL thread only tells you how to add the new SPL... but not how to add your own custom rom or what to do next.

I actually did the HSPL install 2 times because i wasnt sure if it didnt work at first.

Also if you didnt know what WinRar is.. its not dumb.. not everyone knows. Although i would like to agree with this i wont. I consider myself to have good pc knowledge. But dont forget that this is why these threads are found online when someone types in google "unlock HTC touch pro" ..you may not find the site right away but eventually you will.. Keep in mind these threads are here to help out everyone. Otherwise start a pc knowledge test that determines if that new guest is welcomed due to their knowledge of pc stuff.... or join a private forum.

As I see around, theres a lot of negativity when asking a little more support for noobs to flash or even unlock their new phones. We've all had a question the first time. Just because we've all realized that its a piece of cake, now many of you guys are saying to stay away from the touch pro. That's kinda shi tty .....

You can't possibly expect everyone to know everything there is on flashing.

If you look at the instructions, you have a zip file for RUU, why not throw in a zip for winRAR and the reason for it.....

Yeah there wouldn't be any more questions from noobs if all the answers we easily found in a stickied thread. It's not rocket science.

i dont think its that people are being negative, i think its that we want more people on this forum to be self sufficient. when i have a question about something i dont just post it up as soon as i think about it. i search first,, then if i dont find an answer then i will ask. try figuring some things out on your own first

that last statement above is exactly right, its not rocket science so it should be that difficult for new people to figure just a little bit out on their own.
