COOKS: Is it better to use OEM to build into a ROM or Install CAB after the Flash?

Is it better to use OEM to build a ROM or Install CAB after the Flash?

Does it have any baring in terms of performance?

I know OEM packages will write themselves in to a nonvolatile section of the RAM to survive hard-resets, but installed cab won't...

i wonder if one way better then the other..? I only care about performance right now...

That would depend on the .cab.

Usually I always try to go for an OEM install.

In most cases cab is ok. But if you are updating something it will take more space than if used as a oem. Mainly so you can uninstall and have the originals restored.

My opinion: CABs are better. Use UC to ease the pain of reinstalling after flashing.

In my experience I have had certain features not work when installing an OEM when they work using a CAB. Examples: Microsoft Voice Command as an OEM will not anounce incoming calls through my BT ear piece. But if installed as a CAB it will. This was true on my Titan as well as on my Touch Pro and with testing on multiple versions of MSVC. There are other examples this but I can't seem to think of them right now.

Another reason I like CABs better is because when an update for an app is released there are no issues with upgrading because it will uninstall the previous version - or you can uninstall it yourself. HOWEVER, if the app was cooked into the ROM as an OEM, the upgrade can fail if it is not able to remove the previous version.

But if you know for sure that you are not going to want to uninstall or upgrade the app, then go for the OEM and make sure all the features still work. I'd still go with the CAB anyway myself though.

OEM are faster, and can also be easily edited and compressed for better and faster performance then cab files, and cab files take up extra room, because there is the original cab file, and then plus after install the new files installed from the cab.
