I did exactly as you said, and the same problem happens. I don't get it.

the 5-HTC_Programs_Icons.cab is overwriting the .lnks in the /windows folder. The ones linked to the programs in the start menu i.e. File Explorer and changing it to open a different program. So I just hard resetted, I'm going to retry all the cabs minus the 5-HTC-Programs_Icons.cab

ok installed and now i cant open my file browser say its not signed any thoughts

Does anyone have the wait cursor for Windows Mobile 6.5, the one with the 4 spinning orbs of magical light, lol?

just unzip this shellres.192.dll and copy it to windows folder overwriting old one using resco explorer or TC and you will have your original WM6.5 wait curser back as well as normal sized X & OK icons back, however you will lose the black windows start icon, it will revert back to the white windows flag, ENJOY!
