Problems with Windows Vista

Any problems when doing Rom flashing with windows vista ultimate?

I know about a year ago the official Rom update for the Touch (sprint) would "FRY" the phone, as explained to me by HTC and Sprint.

There was some problem with the Rom not being vista compatible... I tried this 2 times and both times I carefully checked the instructions. Both times it got fried, then the 3rd I tried with XP and it worked.

Would it be the same in here with all the different Roms available. I really want to get into this and learn so I can help out. But I have been scared that Vista will brick my devices... Please let me know. Thanks in advance

THIS IS IN THE STICKY Above!

HOW TO FLASH YOUR ROM

Flash from microSD Card (Thanks to MadlyAlive):

1. Make sure you backup anything that is necessary to your day to day operations! At a minimum, please perform an ActiveSync to Outlook or your Exchange server prior to flashing!
2. Rename the custom ROM NBH file from RUU_Signed.nbh to RAPHIMG.nbh
3. Copy RAPHIMG.nbh to the root of your microSD Card.
4. Hold the Volume Down and Power button simultaneously. While you're still holding those 2 buttons, press the reset button with your stylus.
5. When your Touch Pro tells you to do so, press the power button to begin the flash process. If you do not get the message to press the power button to flash, there is a mistake in the name of the NBH file or you do not have the file at the root of your microSD card.
6. When flashing is complete, perform a soft reset.

You'll be frowned upon if you post without researching.:protest:

For god sakes..... This vista stuff is so out of proportion! You can flash EVERY rom with vista. Every rom will flash to a TP or titan and what not. The only case is if someone includes a modified RUU program that is somehow not compatible with vista. The SD card flashing is NOT worth it.

dude, sd card flashing is AMAZING. I can flash my roms i want to test while i am sitting in the park and flash back if I decide I dont like it just by saving your nbh files on the sd card.

Well thanks for the replies. It's not that I don't research, but I really didn't find anything on it. And I posted this because I asked HTC about this problem and they said that the problem was caused by Vista, and sure enough. As soon as I tried it with XP, it all went smooth. I just wanted to know if anyone in here is doing alot of rom flashing with vista. That's it...

As for SD flashing, I hear it's good and bad. So I don't know which way to go now.

SD flashing wouldn't work for me, and i had everything done proper, renamed exactly as mentioned and on the root of the card. still said no image found. so i have to do it via sync to a comp. oh wells :)

p.s I use vista x64 ultimate and I've flashed about 12 times and have had the phone for about 2 weeks.

I had Vista Ultimate 64bit before and I had problems flashing... I changed to Vista Ultimate 32bit and haven't had a problem since... and I flash a lot!

Re: Problems with Windows Vista

when people cant get the SD card method to work its pretty much always one or more of the following.

SD card must be formatted fat 32
nbh file must be names RAPHIMG.nbh (remember the file explorer hides the extension)
the nbh file must be at the lowest level on the card (aka root aka on the card but not in any folders)

As long as you disable the lame "user account control" in vista, there shouldn't be a problem. I have synced my 6700, mogul, touch, and touch pro on vista for a looong time. No probs whatsoever.

Re: Problems with Windows Vista

only problems I have had flashing with vista are. I have to delete the driver from the device manager for tethering to work. IE delete then let it reinstall. I also ran into a problem with the image file on the root of the sd card when I tried to flash the radio rom it got the one from the sd card instead. SO I removed the SD and tried again works fine. YOu still have to connect to PC to unlcok phone anyway.

SD card issues
1 see above
2 it seems you must have an sd card bigger than 1 GIg for it to work. Others have reported same problem and I had it to turns out the 1 gig card won't work. It probable has to do with the fact that fat 32 was originally deignesd to work with disks larger than 1.6 Gig or there abouts.
