SSK ROM users - what type of battery life are you getting?
I'm curious what type of battery life you all are getting with the SSK ROM. I played with my phone a little bit today - maybe a grand total of 30 minutes - and between that and just being off the charger all day I was down to about 50% come the evening. No calls made, just checking emails every 15 minutes. Data on mine is set to timeout after 1 minute of inactivity.
Thanks! |
Re: SSK ROM users - what type of battery life are you getting?
I am a complete noob with the HTC Touch Pro and SSK. I have been battling it out with the battery life on my TP. It just doesnt want to last through the day. Now I dock it every night regardless of the charge level as I always have so each day I start with a full battery.
The second day I had my Alltel Touch Pro the battery crapped out on me after a little less than 4 hours of standby and 9 minutes of actual use, but I also had service teetering on the edge of roaming with 1 bar and NO SERVICE. SO back that phone went and cancelled my 3 day Alltel run. No with my Verizon Touch Pro I usually make it about 7 hours with no internet use 20-30 minutes of calls and prolly a couple dozen texts/ emails and streaming A2DP audio to my Plantronics 590 for the full 7 hours if I am lucky which just doesn't cut it for me. So 2 nights ago I flashed my first SSK ROM and Yesterday had the same daily usage except I also surfed the internet for about 1 hour and 15 while at the doctors office and still got a litttle over 7 hours of use. Not as big of a difference as I have expected but it was noticebly better. Then today using the same SSK ROM I got almost 3 hours before before my battery was warning me it was low at 10%. I dont know what happened today!!! I didnt have hardly any use , 2 or 3-3 minute phone calls 2 texts and pulled email once........ I'm not sure what happened but I cant be without my phone 3 hour into a shift so I hope it goes better than that tommorrow. |
Re: SSK ROM users - what type of battery life are you getting?
If I just text message/make calls I'll be down to about 80% battery..But if I use the internet etc a lot It kills my battery and goes down to about 40% battery left.

WIFI eats up the most power, than bluetooth, data connection and phone... If you live in an area where there's poor digital signal, it'll also have a HUGE impact on your battery power. the lower the signal strength the more power your phone uses to amplify its range... this is probably what you are experiencing... If this is the case, try flashing one of the other radios. they have Sprint and Telus ones.. which i heard good things about... i have Vzw, and i use Vzw radio since.. i have the strongest signal with them around my area... the thread is in here somewhere, search "6 Radios Jan" i think it should pop up. anywho good luck |

I noticed that using the percentage over battery icon kills my battery life. Try using the standard battery icon... it made a huge difference on my phone!

Re: SSK ROM users - what type of battery life are you getting?
No , I have a really strong signal with Verizon , thats why I'm still with them for almost 10 years now!! I usually maintain 3-4 bars at home and work. I don't use wifi EVER but I do use Bluetooth ALL day. I use my Jawbone 2 when I leave the house and for the first couple of hours in the office and then when head out into the shop (remainder of the work day usually 6-7 hours after office time) I stereo bluetooth my Plantronics 590. So I run Bluetooth all day , I'm sure thats whats eating the battery.
My only problem is I am used to being able to do that with my BlackBerrys and they have never died on me prematurely , battery on my Blackberrys is phenominal even with heavy usage. I know the Touch Pro wont last as long , I'm just trying to squeeze every last drop of life out of my Touch Pro on a daily basis , lol :) Also I'm not sure what I think about the percentage over the battery? I mean I love it being there but it doesnt seem very accurate to me........ within just seconds of unplugging the TP in the morning the percentage shows jsut over 90% with no use? and then i'll be watching the percent throughout the day and it will trickle down slowly about 10% an hour and be like 56%.....55%......54%..... then suddenly drop to like 26% out of nowhere!!! So I am thinking the percent is just not displayed accurately??? Do you really think having the percent displayed drains the battery?? |

I don't know why using the percentage icon should make a difference, but all I can say is that it does! Tested this by making two roms, with the only difference between them being the battery icons. Of course i performed a hard reset after each flash, and concluded the percentage icons used in this rom eat the battery life.
About the accuracy, try using installing this cab. It makes a big difference. |

Thanks for the cab. I think I will try a few things with and without the percentage dispalyed and see if I can see a difference.
On a side note I just flashed Juicys ROM and DAMN it is fast! Not sure how the battery is going to fare but it doesn't have the percentage displayed so I'll prolly try it for a day or two and see. THANKS! |
Re: SSK ROM users - what type of battery life are you getting?
Hey guys, I noticed something with my email. I have 2 main email accounts I have the TP pull and they are my Gmail account and my MAIN Yahoo account. I have noticed that the gmail connects logs in and downloads my mail within just a few seconds time, nice. My Yahoo on the other hand always takes 1.5 to 2 minutes just logging in!!. I am only checking for mail every 2 hours in an attempt to save battery life but I strongly suspect that the Yahoo account is more adversely affecting my TPs battery than the others accounts. Anybody else notice this?

Re: SSK ROM users - what type of battery life are you getting?
I've noticed over the past 24 hours that scaling my email (Gmail) checks back down from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes is making a difference in my battery life... Which of course still sucks, but not as badly!
