A question for the Chefs

I think I speak for many people here at PPCGeeks that the work you do to these ROMS is impressive to say the least. Just for my personal curiosity, what kind of backgrounds do you guys have in relation to creating these ROMS? Do you guys have development backround or just done TONS of reading and learned from other people?

I am fairly new to cooking ROMS myself. I have not publicly posted any of mine because of how noobish they are. However, when I was younger I dabbled in VB, C++, HTML, Java and a few other languages. However, I feel that just simply reading and soaking in as much as possible is the best way to learn. Between this site and Xda, there is SO much you can learn from the posts alone. Once you start getting into it, getting that fear outta your mind and just going for it you will realize its not as scarya as you might think. These devices are amazing and the possibilities are almost limitless. Just dont be afraid to get yer hands in there! :) lol
I dont think previous programming knowledge is mandatory. Having that backround sure is nice, but I dont think required. ;) good luck!

I dont program. I just read alot and TONS and TONS of trial and error. When on final release day of a ROM its not uncommon for 5 to 8 flashes that day.

Well I am a ten year veteran package handler for a major parcel company that got into this by reading and reading and lots of trial and error.

I used to run a 5-line BBS (that was before the internet) years ago. I wrote several utilities for my BBS in pascal as a hobby back in the early 90's. I used the bbs to share my software originally. I also worked for 8 years with telecomunications in the army, and 15 years at radioshack. So I've been into technology for a while. But it amazes me how similiar phones/programs are like the BBS's of yesteryear. I just haven't gotten back into programming to make anything for these little jewels.
